Hours: Flexible hours available which includes weekend shifts; to be discussed at interview (No Evenings & No Split Shifts)

Salary: £9.60/hour

Duration: Fixed Term Contract until 5 June 2023

What it's like to work here

You’ll be joining the South Worcestershire Portfolio team, and will work across The Firs and Croome Court. No two days are the same – one day you’ll be serving coffee and cake in our tea room, the next you might be talking about membership or welcoming a coach group. You’ll report to our two Welcome Managers and work alongside both the Food & Beverage and Welcome teams at both sites, helping us to deliver outstanding service wherever you are.
The Firs, Elgar's birthplace, is an important site both regionally and nationally as we tell the story of how a man born in a humble cottage in the Worcestershire countryside became the musical genius we now know. We have restored the cottage garden as closely as possible to how it was when the Elgar family lived there, and open the Birthplace Cottage for visitors to explore.
Croome is a 730 acre estate, designed for the 6th Earl of Coventry in the 18th century by the celebrated Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, who designed not only the landscape but Croome Court and other buildings too. We have landscape gardens, woodland and parkland as well as a mile and ¾ long ornamental river to care for. At Croome we ask our visitors to ‘expect the unexpected’, presenting the house and park in a new and exciting way.

What you'll be doing

Visitors are a vital part of what we do. As the Service Assistant it’s your role to ensure that our visitors receive perfect service, whichever department you're working in, setting them up for an amazing experience for the rest of the day. In this role, you’ll be;

  • Working alongside our Welcome Managers and volunteers in delivering outstanding customer service across the properties.
  • Working as part of our Food & Beverage team to provide the classic National Trust tea room experience.
  • Working as part of our Welcome team, admitting visitors to the property, providing information and orientation and giving a warm welcome.
  • Promoting the benefits of actively supporting the National Trust, wherever you're working in the portfolio - whether that's memberships, donations, fundraising or more.
  • Supporting the delivery of events at times throughout the year.
  • Flexible to work at both The Firs and Croome as we need you.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you, if you have:
  • A can-do attitude
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with people
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to work well in a team or on your own
  • Good understanding of the National Trust and what we do
