Car Park Assistant - Windermere

Summary

Working as one of our Car Park Assistants you will be a key part in delivering a fantastic welcome to our visitors in the Lake District.

This role will welcome visitors in our temporary car park based in Windermere. You will be processing car park payments and helping visitors with their day. This role will require weekend and bank holiday working with an emphasis on being available during school holidays.

We are looking for 3 people to fill these roles each working around 180 hours over an 18 week period between 01/06/2022 – 30/09/2022. All hours considered – if you want more information or to discuss alternative hours please email Catherine.Douglass@nationaltrust.org.uk to discuss.

A full UK driver’s licence is beneficial for this role.

What it's like to work here

Reaching southwards from the central mountain core of the Lake District down to the sea, the Windermere valley is a vast and varied landscape, featuring, as its glorious centrepiece, England’s longest and largest natural lake.

All around the lake is a rich and diverse landscape, from the more rugged volcanic northern basin to the softer shales and gentle fells of the south. The east shore is more accessible and therefore more populated than the more densely wooded west side.

In 1847, the arrival of the railway enabled a new level of tourism to Windermere. Along with its general accessibility by coach, the valley became an incredibly popular attraction and to this day, whilst still having a thriving community of farming and industry, Windermere remains one of the Lake District’s most popular valleys for visitors.

This role will mainly be based in Windermere, but you may be asked to work in other locations with prior arrangement.

What you'll be doing

Based in beautiful locations, you’ll be working in the outdoors welcoming our visitors; providing help and guidance on where to park, processing payments for car parking and ensuring our visitors have the information they need to have a fantastic day.

You'll help to keep the car park and surrounding area look great through signage checks and litter picking. As this is an outdoors role, you'll need to be comfortable working in all weather conditions.

Who we're looking for

You’ll be:

  • Helpful & Friendly
  • Customer focused with a positive attitude
  • Enthusiastic with a willingness to learn
  • A team player, but also can work on your own initiative.

Benefits for working at the National Trust include:

  • Flexible working whenever possible
  • Free parking at most locations
  • Free entry to our properties for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
