The Newt in Somerset is a country estate with ancient woodland, historic gardens and far-reaching views; a new and unique destination with luxury hotel, spa, restaurants and an abundance of homegrown produce. Visitors can take a tour of the gardens, deer park and cyder press, dine in the Garden Café or browse our farm shops. Attracting some 200,000 visitors per year from all over the world, our vibrant and thriving garden attraction is animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops and educational programmes.

Department Description

Food & Beverage is at the heart of the Estate and encompasses a multitude of venues including the Garden Café, Cyder Bar, Gelato Room & Story of Gardening, with more venues expected to open as we further grow. As an F&B department, we pride ourselves on our fresh, quality, produce along with the highest standard of service. We strive for excellence and a keen eye for detail as well as unity, flexibility and a genuine passion for good food & beverage.

Position Summary

In this role, you will assist in the smooth running of service across our F&B venues where required. Your journey will start at the Cyder Bar with opportunity to then swiftly learn how our other venues operate and work there too. You will be happy to work as part of a team who are passionate about hospitality and food & beverage. The prime focus will be on guest experience on the estate, supporting and assisting your team in ensuring as a front of house team, you deliver and uphold the standard estate wide. You will be willing to learn, delivering impeccable service and able to follow our steps of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the team in daily opening and closing of venues
  • Following systems to uphold presentation, cleanliness and upkeep of all departments
  • Ensuring The Newt’s style of service and ethos is always upheld
  • Taking orders from guests following our steps of service, ensuring the guest experience is second to none.
  • Maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of all areas visible to guests and back of house
  • Supporting other team members within the whole department
  • Maintaining company representation, ensuring you always look impeccable

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in hospitality role is preferred but not necessary
  • Willingness to develop, grow and keep up with the demands of our developing business
  • Confidence in talking to guests and willing to help in every situation
  • Good attention to detail, being able to see potential issues before they appear
  • Great time management and self-motivated
  • Passion for food, beverage and luxury hospitality
