Duty Manager (Facilities) - Tonbridge, Kent

We are currently looking for an experienced Duty Manager to manage the centre on a daily basis with additional operational responsibilities including Centre defect reporting, managing the team of General Assistants, management of COSHH and overseeing all vending operations.

The successful candidate will be appropriately qualified with at least two years’ experience of the operations and tasks related to the day-to-day running of leisure facilities, including health & safety, COSHH and RIDDOR. Excellent customer service is paramount together with proven skills as an effective team leader.

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Main Purpose: To manage the Centre on a daily as basis as Duty Manager, with additional responsibilities including Centre defect reporting, managing the team of General Assistants, management of COSHH, and overseeing all vending operations.

MAIN DUTIES

  • To manage the daily operations of the Centre on a shift rota, as part of the Centre Management Team.
  • To manage the team of General Assistants, ensuring high levels of cleaning and COSHH records are maintained throughout the Centre.
  • To undertake regular building inspections to identify operational issues and report appropriately.
  • To assist the Centre Manager to meet the service and financial outputs set for the Centre, as detailed in the annual budget and business plan.
  • To achieve income targets and manage expenditure budgets as required.
  • To manage the vending operations at the Centre. To lead on the control of stock for the vending machines including ordering, stock-taking and re-stocking as required.
  • To manage function bookings.
  • To oversee the use of the kitchen and staff room at the Centre.
  • To manage the cleaning store, ensuring that materials/chemicals are ordered in advance and stored safely.
  • To support the Technical Team with regular checks.
  • To ensure that staff are trained in how to use cleaning materials and chemicals. Ensure that COSHH and PPE legislation is followed, and appropriate equipment is in place.
  • To work on other leisure related projects as necessary, commensurate with the responsibility of the post.
  • To undertake any other duties as requested by the Line Manager

The successful candidate must maintain the confidentiality of information regarding the School, its staff and its business. Information must not be communicated to other persons either in or outside the School except in the recognised course of their duties.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team of staff to deliver organisational objectives and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Sound interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with all levels of Centre staff
  • Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures, in accordance with legislation and best practice
  • Proven problem-solving, planning, decision-making and organisational skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills to ensure effective communication with a wide range of individuals including customers and colleagues
  • Proven influencing and persuasion skills sufficient to persuade others to a different course of action
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge and understand complex issues
  • An enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to see jobs through to completion
  • Personal commitment to continuing professional development and to maintaining an up-to-date professional knowledge sufficient to be a credible and effective source of advice. Being a member of CIMSPA is an ongoing requirement of this post.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of leisure facilities operation and current leisure management practices
  • Knowledge of centre operations including health and safety, COSHH, RIDDOR and customer service
  • Knowledge and appreciation of effective performance management processes as an aid to service improvement
  • At least two years’ experience of the operations and tasks related to the day-to day running of leisure facilities and/or a leisure club
  • Working knowledge of service improvement models
  • Experience of working effectively as a team leader

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You should hold NPLQ, First Aid, and Health & Safety qualifications/certificates or agree to work towards these qualifications as a condition of employment

HOURS OF WORK

  • 40 hours per week based around a shift system as part of the necessary duties, including evenings and weekends (approximately 1 in every 3).

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

  • An annual salary in the range of £25,000 to £27,000
