Job Description

We are looking for a qualified accountant with several years of PQE gained in either a group finance function or top accounting firm. Very strong technically, including consolidations, and with evidence of process and systems improvement, the right candidate will be responsible for preparation and completion of financial and management reporting for the Group, including reporting to our principal shareholder, statutory reporting and other activities to drive continuous improvement in current processes, supporting the aim of improving the quality and timeliness of reporting.

This is a great opportunity for the right individual to join our finance department and be a part of the change we are delivering within the Rank Group. The role has a wide range of responsibilities, providing the successful candidate with a varied role covering a wide range of reporting within a FTSE 250 Plc.

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Year end and interims:

  • Support the completion and production of the Group's consolidated results used internally to support the Annual Report and external announcement
  • Support the preparation and review of Annual Report and Accounts
  • Preparation of the like for like (LFL) analysis supporting the Annual Report and Accounts
  • Preparation and review of external announcement (RNS) and slides
  • Responsible for all technical accounting aspects, including acquisitions and disposals, bi-annual impairment and provision reviews, going concern assessment, share based payments and post-retirement benefit accounting, and other significant areas of judgement

Statutory reporting:

  • Supporting the production of The Rank Group Plc consolidated interim and full-year annual reports
  • Completing a range of the Group's subsidiary financial statements
  • Liaising with the Group's auditors in respect of the above processes

Parent company reporting:

  • Completion of all monthly reporting to parent undertaking
  • Completion of quarterly consolidation packs
  • Completion of the presentations for the Quarterly Strategic Business Meetings
  • Responding to ad hoc financial information requests from parent undertaking

Budgets, forecasts and strategic plan:

  • Support Head of FP&A with the preparation of the consolidated annual budget and strategic plan process, together with the quarterly forecast updates
  • Support the Head of FP&A with the production of supporting packs, including slide decks

Management accounts:

  • Preparation of the consolidated monthly flash reporting of results (P&L) including driving continuous improvement in the quality and timeliness of flash reporting
  • Ownership of financial accounting for the Group's finance company, Rank Group Finance Plc, working closely with the Treasury Manager
  • Support the delivery of the monthly consolidated management results, including full consolidated income statement, balance sheet, working capital, cash flow and segmental analysis with commentary
  • Ensure controls and reconciliations are maintained over key accounts

Other responsibilities:

  • Completion of all National Statistic returns
  • Ad hoc project work to support other team members
  • Development of other Group Accountants
  • Help to drive improvement in current processes with aim of improving quality and timeliness of reporting

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant: ACCA\ACA\CIMA with several years PQE
  • Good system knowledge, ideally Dynamics 365, and experience of consolidation systems
  • Advanced Excel skills, with experience of macros
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A desire to build the commercial knowledge which support the ability to understand and interpret the numbers, drawing upon the candidate's technical financial skills
  • Ability to plan and manage own time effectively to ensure delivery against deadlines
  • A keenness to learn and understand the business and to add value by using financial analysis to assist in driving performance
  • Lateral thinker who constantly seeks to improve efficiency and effectiveness of tasks
  • Conscientious self-starter with the ability to work on own initiative and able to prioritise workload
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with colleagues at all levels
  • Flexible working attitude with the willingness to work hours that reflect the needs of the operation
  • Good team player; able to work effectively as part of the operations support team
