This is an excellent opportunity for you to join a five star kitchen brigade at a special time.  Working as a Pastry Chef within York's only 5* Hotel, you will be able to use your abilities to create an exceptional experience for our guests. 

Using your passion for food and service, you will contribute greatly to the guest experience by providing high quality food. You will be flexible to work on different sections, where you will receive full on-going training to further your development. 

You will also have the opportunity to work across our full F&B offering: our main Restaurant, In-room Dining, Meeting & Events, Afternoon Tea, our Executive Lounge and the reopening of our award winning Fine Dining Restaurant, Hudson’s. 

You will be working with our new Executive Head Chef, who will upskill you, provide you with the opportunity to build up your abilities. This is an opportunity to build upon your existing skill set, and enhance your individual learning within the team. You will be able to showcase your talent through our exquisite Afternoon Tea offering, as well as through the preparation of a range of desserts to be served across our outlets. With the guidance of our Executive Head Chef, you will be able to use your experience to enhance our Pastry offering, and ensure that we are consistently providing high quality menu items.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Pastry Chef:

This is a fast paced, busy, buzzing, guest focused environment. You will need the willingness to develop your learning, to really care about everything you produce and to work as part of a team focused on consistently exceeding guest expectations. You will also demonstrate;   

  • Team-orientated approach
  • Create and prepare all pastry items as required by the business
  • Prepare, clean and organise ingredients for use in the kitchen 
  • Create, develop, and implement recipes to enhance the reputation of The Grand, York 
  • Plan the menu of desserts and pastry to compliment savoury items
  • Help to maintain and adhere to strict health and safety procedures 
  • Inspire, teach, and guide junior members of the kitchen brigade 
  • Maintain up to date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients 
  • Carry out administrative duties to maintain an efficient workspace 
  • Confident culinary techniques and skills 
  • Good sense of planning and preparation for the day ahead
  • Diligent and meticulous in making and receiving orders 
  • Punctual  and disciplined to ensure optimal work performance 
  • Flexibility with shift patterns in line with business needs
  • Proven experience working as a pastry chef in a high quality fast-paced kitchen environment.
