Head of Operations

Location: National, based from home and prepared to travel around the UK

Nationally, we are a well-known outdoor leisure business with over 30 sites across the UK, focussed around the Midlands, London and the South. We provide a number of adventurous activities at our sites for over a million customers of all ages every year. Our aim is to challenge our customers to go that extra mile, giving them confidence and encouragement to turn “I can’t” into “I can”. The company plays a key role supporting outdoor learning experiences, encouraging confidence and teamwork amongst friends and family, corporates and schools while pushing the boundaries of learning through controlled exposure to risk. 

The Operations Team, which this role leads, is responsible for providing a safe, exciting, fun and challenging environment for our customers while supporting our individual site teams to operate safely, efficiently and commercially. Leading a team of individual experts in their field across business development, construction, commercial, inspection, training and safety, you will be seeking out new opportunities and revenue streams while ensuring the existing systems and infrastructure are maintained and improved.

The role will require you to work and collaborate across all departments to assimilate and process an array of information from different sources, make decisions and hustle in order to progress projects to their conclusion in a timely and coordinated manner.

The key responsibilities for the role will include:

You will lead a team of experienced professionals managing, operating, maintaining and developing quality outdoor adventure experiences. You will work with high level stakeholders including landlords together with our own site teams and support teams in finance, HR, IT, marketing and sales. You will report directly to the Managing Director.

 Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and develop an experienced, skilled and professional operations team, inspiring, motivating and coordinating the team members to deliver great results
  • Communicate and coordinate plans effectively at all levels across the company from the customer facing instructors through to site managers, support teams and the Managing Director
  • Collaborate with support teams in developing the business and driving the growth
  • Develop the revenue generating ideas, seek efficiencies and cost savings and communicate the commercially successful ideas across all teams
  • Efficiently oversee day to day resources, operations and budgets, with particular focus on labour costs, making full use of the reporting systems
  • Plan and implement the business development strategy ensuring the customer activities continue to evolve, improve and excite
  • Maintain a safe, healthy and inclusive environment for staff and customers, in line with legal requirements, industry best practice and corporate standards
  • Work alongside the senior team, sharing expertise and supporting colleagues in all functions
