Lifeguard - Northwood, London

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To supervise the security and safety of all users and carry out rescues as required.

ORGANISATION:

As a member of the Schools' Non-Teaching staff, the incumbent will be accountable to the Bursar for the proper performance of duties. The incumbent's day to day activities will be supervised by the Lettings Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Dress accordingly for the role using uniform supplied by MTS.
  • To be vigilant in ensuring the safety of all swimmers
  • Assessing swimmers that are at risk
  • Be constantly alert to prevent accidents 
  • Assist with the maintenance of the swimming pool area
  • Ensuring rescue equipment is in the right place and in working order
  • Be aware of, and try to reduce potential hazards
  • Knowing and understanding pool rules
  • To carry out pool water tests (preferred but not essential)
  • Set up and break down equipment required for swimming sessions
  • To provide First Aid when required
  • To carry out cleaning duties within the swimming pool if required.
  • Report any damage or malfunction of equipment or the pool building to the Lettings Manager
  • Report any maintenance issues and pass on any customer complaints to the Lettings Manager.
  • To ensure that any lost property is placed in the swimming pool foyer lost property container
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Lettings Manager.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) or equivalent essential
  • Previous experience (preferred but not essential)

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable and committed to every session
  • Good observation skills and the ability to maintain a high level of concentration at all times
  • Presenting a professional appearance and attitude at all times
  • Having a positive and proactive attitude to work

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS

It is the post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact and to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding Policy Statement at all times.  If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School s/he must report any concerns to the Head Master

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

Start Date: January 2021

Hours: 6pm-8pm (2 hours per week on a Friday evening)

Salary: £8.20-£8.72 per hour (dependent on age)

Other Benefits: School Pension Scheme (Contributory) - following qualifying period and subject to eligibility criteria.

Use of school leisure facilities.
