We're seeking a Shift Engineer to join the Strand Palace team. This opportunity comes at an exciting time for the hotel. Your input will have a direct impact the business as we are undergoing a multi-million-pound investment in readiness for the 2020s.

Our hotel 

Strand Palace has welcomed guests since 1905. Our journey has been very special and there is no stopping us. All 785 guestrooms are being refurbished and they feature a modern art deco style, providing a fresh and utilitarian aesthetic.

Work has just been completed in the hotel's public areas including a new restaurant and bar Haxells, in a modern and contemporary style. The hotel attracts a wide demographic, across all ages, for both leisure and business travel, from a variety of domestic and international markets.

The ideal candidate

  • Proactive approach, with excellent time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Must be flexible in your approach, adapting to change quickly and seemlessly 
  • Works well in a team but it self motivated and does not need much instruction 
  • Preferably have experience working in a hotel environment 
  • Must have previous engineering experience 

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide maintenance services to the hotel, with specific focus on preventative maintenance in all public and back of house areas within the Hotel 
  • To maintain, repair and replace ceiling tiles, lighting, signance, carpet, doors, telephones and general decoration, and any other necessary works within the corridors 
  • To maintain, repoar and replace window parts, portable appliances, tiling, bathroom facilities and general decor within the bedroom 
  • PAT testing 
  • To complete all necessary statutory requirements within allocated areas, and complete necessary records of work completed and findings
  • To maintain a high level of customer service when dealing with any problems/requests, and complete work and reports in a prompt and efficient manner 
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for staff and guests and ensure all audits, both internal and external are carried out to a satisfactory level
  • To liase with contractors on site, ensuring they are signed in, and have completed all necessary permits to work, and that relevant staff are aware that contractors are on site
  • To check back of house regularly and any maintenance problems are corrected, in addition to handling any extra problems reported during the shift
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments to ensure all issues/quries are dealt with promptly and seamlessly
