Investment Appraisal Finance Manager
Our finance team provide commercial financial support to real estate & investment decisions across Asda. The Real Estate function is responsible for maintaining all aspects of our store estate, evaluating the most effective use of our Property portfolio, identifying estate opportunities and opening new stores. The Property finance team that support the Real Estate function adopt a collaborative yet challenging approach with our customers.
About the role:
You will be a key component of the decision making process, which identifies, recommends and concludes on investment proposals and strategic business development opportunities. You will be responsible for developing investment appraisal models and ensuring latest industry thinking and practices are incorporated. Working closely with other teams around the business and your Finance colleagues, you will be at the forefront of helping the business make the right investment decisions, aligned to strategic priorities preparing investment papers
What you’ll be responsible for:
Challenging senior stakeholders to prioritise and evaluate investment decisions and improve store performance Providing key insight through financial modelling and presenting findings Investments include opening new stores and redevelopment of existing stores, with an increasing focus on activity to optimise returns from asset base of c.600 stores. You will be critical to the future strategy of our estate Working with stakeholders across the wider Property teams, including surveyors, market evaluation and construction You will have the opportunity to support and present in monthly meetings to the Asda Executive Board and the Walmart International Executive Board
About you:
To be able to hit the ground running it goes without saying that you’ll have a strong academic background with a professional Accounting qualification. You should have an excellent level of financial modelling skills with the ability to build complex models from scratch utilising analytical, big data tools such as Alteryx and Tableau and be digitally aware and keen to keep up to date with emerging trends.
With a strong commercial skillset you’ll have the ability to evaluate investments and support clear, robust and measurable business cases with the ability to provide accurate, timely information to a high quality with excellent attention to detail. Ideally you’ll also have M&A exposure and experience in business & operating model development & project management.
You’ll need the ability to establish professional and credible relationships with both finance and non-finance colleagues and have the confidence to challenge and influence senior level operational partners. You’ll be able to work cross functionally with strong leadership skills and commercial acumen, embrace matrix working and possess strong business partner skills.
You should be willing to bring your whole self to work and be curious with a growth mind set to invest in the development opportunities available both technically and personally. You’ll be a flexible self-starter and able to work with autonomy and able to deal with ambiguity.
