Human Resources Manager

Responsibility

The Human Resources Manager is a strategic HR professional, and a member of the Executive Committee, that is part of the leadership team on board to enforce and implement human resources strategies and policies that are in line with the Mein Schiff CLASS Philosophy. The Human Resources Manager also serves as a strategic partner to the shipboard leadership team by providing human resources direction and guidance on all employee related issues. The Human Resources Manager leads and manages the Human Resources Department (HR Office) and has to ensure that the HR Office is in compliance with the safety, health and environmental standards of the ship as well as to ensure an efficiently running HR Office which is in compliance with immigration and international laws as well as company standards and procedures.

The Human Resources Manager must have extensive knowledge in all aspects of HR including employee relations, performance management, organizational development, training, compensation, benefits and HR systems.

The Human Resources Manager shall maintain a close reporting relation with the Staff Captain in all Crew performance matters and with regards to Crew Welfare as well as with the Captain for all relevant Crew related topics.

  • Educates and supports the on-board management with regards to HR policies, procedures and standards including but not limited to the company's performance management, the progressive discipline procedures, the development procedures such as Position Change, Promotion Pool, Potential Evaluation and Junior Management Trainee Program as well as the Grievance Procedures on board. Partners with Department and Division Heads to ensure consistent and fair application.
  • Monitors and supports the management team in preparing and conducting their teams appraisals according to company policy.
  • Conducts company trainings such as Crew Orientation, MLC and Work Arrangements Work Schedule und Timesheet, Cultural Diversity, Actions to Control Fatigue, Appraisal Training and Rookie Coach Training.
  • Working closely with the Crew Administrator, Payroll Purser and Document Purser. Overseas activities relating to sign on and sign off procedures, crew immigration / customs and all other issues related to the HR Office.
  • Provides counselling and guidance to crew members relating to work and personal issues.
  • In charge of the grievance procedure on board, investigating, tracking of and follow up on grievances.
  • In charge of the preparation and organization of Master Hearings, Warnings and Counsellings and their Documentation, serves in a support and advisory function to the Staff Captain with regards to progressive disciplinary actions and is in attendance as Employer Representative in the meetings.
  • Does all administrative tasks in the Human Resources Management Office such as (but is not limited to) preparation of reports, scheduling and tracking of training, preparation of work schedules, posters and notices, preparation and check of logs and check lists.
  • Maintains safe, secure and healthy environment by enforcing organizational standards, procedures and legal regulations. Attends mandatory Crew Safety Drills as required, including meetings, training activities, courses and all other work-related activities.


Qualification / Job experience
  • Bachelor's in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or related field is required or a minimum of three (3) years senior management experience in Human Resources or should have done a minimum of six (6) contracts on board the ship in the position of Crew Administrator.
  • Minimum two (2) years in the employee relations investigating, negotiating and resolving grievances and conflicts preferably in a multi-cultural diverse environment.
  • Strong communication skills, being able to communicate tactfully, effectively and confidently with crew members, guests, and department/ division heads, both one on one and in larger group settings.
  • Prior work experience in the hotel department on the ship or shore side is an advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook
  • Good knowledge of the hotel department onboard cruise vessels in general as well as very good knowledge of administration matters.
  • Job experience or Training in Human Resources department
  • Fluent both written and verbal in German and English; ability to speak additional languages preferred
