Job Description

Apprentice Nursery Assistant

1.         To undertake a range of practical tasks to support the running of the nursery

2.         To work effectively and professionally with other staff in the nursery to ensure the nurseries policies and procedures are implemented consistently

3.         To assist in providing a high standard of quality care and education, ensuring the needs of individual children are met, including those from a variety of cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of development

4.         With guidance from senior staff plan an environment and learning experiences which promote the principals set out in the EYFS

5.         Interact with the children in order to help to extend their learning experiences in all areas

6.         With the support of senior staff, build and maintain close and secure relationships with children, ensuring their care, health and well-being are promoted at all times

7.         Keep observational records of children, with guidance use them to inform planning. Share with parents and other staff as appropriate

8.         with guidance from senior staff support children in developing their personal and social skills and in making relationships with other children through modelling positive behaviour

9.         To support children in the nursery with their play and social development

10.       With guidance implement advice from professional or specialist support staff involved in the children’s care and education, with particular reference to key children. (These may include social workers, health visitors, language support staff, speech therapists, educational psychologists and physiotherapists)

11.       To help children with feeding, changing clothes, nappies, toileting etc.

12.       To assist in ensuring mealtimes provide a positive social experience for the children

13.       Develop and maintain close, supportive relationships with parents and carers

14.       Ensure nursery safeguarding procedures are adhered to as necessary

15.       To comply with the nurseries Equal Opportunities policy at all times

16.       To comply with the nurseries Health and Safety policy at all times

17.       To help maintain hygienic standards at all times

18.       Report and record accidents and incidents in accordance with the nurseries policies

19.       Attend training courses as required

20.       Attend staff meetings as required

21.       Attend parent’s evenings as required

22.       Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by a senior member of staff

 

Staff are expected to provide support for each other, to cover for each other’s areas of work during absences, to share information and to contribute generally to the smooth running of the nursery. Staff may also be required to undertake other duties within their capabilities.

Training

Delivered through blended learning. Supported by one our sector specialist tutors the tutor will deliver teaching sessions using a variety of methods including; face to face, Skype, virtual classroom, face time and telephone and additionally provide support and motivation. Working in partnership with the employer, apprentices will be provided with ‘on the job’ and ‘off the job’ training during their paid working hours.
