The Royal Free Charity is rapidly expanding and has a vacancy for a Exercise Referral Instructor based within the Charity’s Recreation Club at the Royal Free Hospital.

The Exercise Referral Instructor will be responsible for operational and service excellence, health and safety, involved in the sales, marketing and communications of the club and be first point of contact to meet and greet clients at reception.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Club Manager and will be required to educate, encourage, support, deliver and signpost service users to the most appropriate form of physical activity.

The Instructor will review personal activity programmes, undertake initial consultation, fitness inductions, group activities, perform progress reviews and carry out various assessments with customers who have been referred by the RFC Support Hub, using motivational techniques to help clients adopt appropriate lifestyle and behavioural change.

The RFC works in partnership with the Royal Free Trust by ‘making today feel better’ for all users of the hospitals. We raise and spend millions every year, which supports pioneering research that revolutionises patient care through to everyday improvements in hospital services and facilities.

You will be able to undertake the following role responsibilities along with demonstrating the following

Role specifics: -

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To:-

  • provide consultation for clients and collect data to monitor progress
  • deliver a range of high-quality physical activity opportunities that are progressive and reflective of the needs of to our special populations in the community
  • implement strict data and management protocols, including confidentiality
  • assist in evaluation by collection of accurate data
  • sign post clients to appropriate exit routes
  • support all other scheme staff and ensure that they are aware of their role in the scheme and update training as necessary
  • attend and assist the Club Manager at the project management meetings
  • ensure: -
    • communication is maintained with referral professionals
    • development and dissemination of good practice in the delivery of exercise by research evidence regarding exercise and certain medical conditions
  • collate information regarding the scheme and disseminate them to the Club Manager
  • work with, and in connection with the club manager and support hub in adapting the scheme to benefit and support long term illness.

Under the direction of the Club Manager, oversee the day to day administration tasks of the scheme, including: -

  • telephone communication
  • distribution of appropriate mail
  • booking appointments
  • monitoring scheme attendance and client’s programmes
  • ensuring client follow – up procedures and implemented

Undertake relevant training as required by the role

Customer Service / Quality

  • Provide: -
    • a warm welcome and work with the team to continually improve the overall member experience
    • an information induction for new club members
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety, hygiene and COSHH regulations comply with requirements and club rules are observed by members and guests ensuring their safety and well-being when using the club

People

  • Communicate performance standards and expectations, in a way that motivates other team members
  • Manage customer complaints in a professional manner in line with the complaints policy and procedures
  • Work with your line manager to obtain regular feedback from members to ensure suggestions and customer service improvement opportunities are actioned

We can’t live without….(essential)

  • Qualifications
    • Level 3 advance gym instructor
    • Recognised level 3 GP Referral qualification
    • Level 2 group work qualification (ie circuits / exercise to music)
  • Member of the Register of Exercise Professionals at either level 3 or 4
  • Experience: -
    • minimum of two years’ experience within a Health and Fitness environment including the initiation and delivery of Health and Fitness services to the public and special population
    • in providing fitness instruction and designing programmes for clients
    • working with the general public
  • First class people / customer service skills
  • Honest, flexible and responsible
  • Ability to:-
    • prioritise, organise and manage workload effectively whilst dealing with unplanned interruptions
    • follow instructions and adhere to Charity and Trust policies
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Confidence and competence in delivering exercise programmes / classes for special population.

  • Experience of working on a GP exercise Referral Scheme or a Chronic Condition rehabilitation scheme.
  • Health and Fitness Degree
  • Walking way to health leaders training
  • A selection of exercise to music qualifications ie Aqua, In-chair osteoporosis, Cardiac rehabilitation
  • First aid / defibrillator qualified
  • Ability to wear multi-hats
  • Understand and knowledge of COSHH
