Buying Manager – Cooked Meats

Based at Asda House in Leeds

We have an exciting opportunity for a Buying Manager to join our team. You will play a key role in driving forward our ambitious plans for the Cooked Meats category.
The role covers a number of commodities where being the sharpest on price at the best quality is absolutely key. The individual in this role will need to be able to obtain a detailed knowledge of the category and build strong relationships with our supply base, including Forza who are our vertically integrated Cooked Meats business as part of IPL. Whilst growing Own Label is our number 1 focus, a strong branded performance goes hand in hand and is a critical element of success and so your relationships with branded suppliers will be crucial to success.
This role provides many opportunities to further develop both your technical and behavioural capabilities as part of collaborative team that is committed to helping our customers save money and live better.

What you’ll be responsible for:

Reporting directly to the Senior Buying Manager,

You will:Deliver the category strategy, finance plan and P&L delivery. Direct accountability for product development, deployment, supplier strategy and promotional/pricing strategy for your department.Maximise the opportunities for ‘buying better’ and driving ‘Cost To Serve/Every Day Low Price’ (EDLP) improvements in a highly competitive arena – working with both branded and own label suppliers with a challenging COGs plan.Develop strong supplier relationships across the category.Deliver and optimise the promotional programme.Have a Customer & Commercial mind-set, ensuring that we get the best product ranges & best prices for our customers.Develop and nurture a broad team working within the POD structure
About you: You’ll be a pro-active self-starter, who is a great communicator and with an eye for detailDemonstrate relevant buying experience as a Buying Manager, or Category ManagerA passion for driving sales and outperforming profit targets, increasing market shareThe ability to work & make decisions at pace, prioritise effectively and engage at all levels of the business and manufacturing communityStrong negotiation skillsAbility to build and nurture strong supplier relationshipsExcellent leadership and communication skillsDetermination, tenacity and a cost-focused approachCommercially astute - using data and Management Information to make informed decisions
