Right now we’re on the look-out for a Retail Manager, responsible for the smooth and efficient management of all retail areas in the attraction and to make sure that our guests have a Bricktastic experience.

About the role

As part of the attraction management team, in this newly created role, you’ll recruit, lead and train the Retail team to be the best they can. Upskilling and inspiring them to deliver exceptional service whilst challenging them to increase customer conversion rates and drive up the average spend per head to achieve sales targets and ultimately grow our profits.

This role will encompass all the usual management tasks you’d expect in a busy customer facing environment, but being part of Merlin it also gives you the autonomy to deliver so much more. With your commercial hat on you’ll analyse and interpret sales data and feedback information on product performance to ensure our targets are achieved, by making the best use of all opportunities. You’ll also take ownership of staff rotas for all retail areas and ensure adequate cover is maintained at all times within set budgets.

Our LEGO STORE is very much part of the Discovery Centre immersive experience therefore visual merchandising and space management within the unit will be crucial. You’ll have a real flair for creating innovative and exciting displays which maximise sales opportunities whilst following strict accordance with LEGO guidelines and agreed standards.

The successful candidate will support with development of new income streams, business opportunities and projects connected with retail operations.

This role is a permanent, full time role and given the 7 day nature of the visitor attraction business, there will be regular weekend and bank holiday working on a roster basis, so you’ll need to be flexible with regards working days and hours.

About you

First and foremost - you're going to be a retail specialist through and through - and exude an infectious passion for the LEGO product. We're looking for someone with a charismatic leadership style who conveys drive, energy and a desire to deliver.

You may have gained your experience in any well respected brand on the high street or even better, at a visitor attraction. But what's most important - no matter where you've gained your retail know how - is that you completely get how a slick commercial team operates and understand the 'ins and outs' of running a number of concessions or a large unit on a day to day basis. Ultimately it's your ability to inspire, coach and lead from the front that's most important - so you'll be a credible manager that delivers results through a genuine passion for what you do, and who always gets the best from others.

It goes without saying that you'll have experience of setting and managing budgets and driving profits however you'll 'get the bigger picture too ' and be the sort of person who actively wants to input beyond your area of expertise. You will be someone who challenges the status quo and is keen to push boundaries and get involved in driving a business forward. To do this though you'll also be able to adapt your style to meet different audiences and bring a strategic, but hands on approach, and back up your great ideas with sound business rationale.
