Group Lean Director

Location: Preferably UK (London / Poole), but flexible globally for the right candidate

A job with Merlin isn’t like a job anywhere else. With attractions around the world, from roller coasters to wax figures, we don’t trade in suits, handshakes or briefcases. We trade in fun. In smiles, shrieks and spine-tingles. In Memories. In magic. But there are no tricks behind our magic. Instead, there are people like you. Passionate, dedicated people who are committed to making sure our worldwide attractions and guests’ experiences are the best they can be.

Due to the continuing growth and development of Merlin’s attractions and brands on a global scale, we are looking for a Group Lean Director to join our Corporate team.  We are flexible on where this role is located but prefer it to be based in the UK.

Job Scope:

To deliver an ongoing culture of Lean continual improvement, initially across Resorts but also applying knowledge to Midway and Central functions, realising cumulative 1% global operating cost annual savings (£10 m per year) by 2022.

Circa £1 m - £2 m annual lean operating budget responsibility during implementation.

Direct management of Lean implementation teams (internal and third party suppliers). Dotted line management for all Lean Champions at each division, as they are established.

Key Objectives:
Lead and deliver “launch” Lean implementation projects across Merlin divisions and central functions.
Set up and lead a Merlin Lean Academy to establish better “lean” skills across our estate and to instill a culture of continuous operational efficiency improvement across the Group.

Main Responsibilities:
Recruit and manage teams to lead the implementation of Lean across Merlin’s LEGOLAND Parks and Resort Theme Parks globally (circa 4 to 6 month projects per year). Similarly recruit and lead Lean experts across Midway and Central functions.
Establish the mechanism for a “virtual” Lean Academy including, but not limited to, branding and marketing, governance structure, training programs and developing an organisational structure for continual improvement at each division (Resorts, Midway and Central functions).
Driving and supporting the appointment of divisional “lean” champions at each division (post the launch project) and providing technical leadership on an ongoing basis.
Ensure each division has in place an evolving list of “hopper” lean projects and that such projects are completed and tracked by local teams, having had sufficient training and coaching to do so.
Liaise with Digital as appropriate to facilitate the discussion (or ensure decisions are taken) on technical solutions where required.
Deliver budget savings and establish a robust savings tracking mechanism.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications required .....
Minimum of 10 years Lean experience, leading global Lean programs, ideally in consumer facing organisations.
Master Black Belt Six Sigma qualified.

Personal Qualities required .....
The successful candidate must have a strong cultural fit for Merlin, understanding that the Group’s core aim is to provide Memorable Experiences for all our Guests.
The candidate should be highly competent in concurrently managing several projects. He / she should also be able to demonstrate experience of influencing and negotiating at a senior level.

The Benefits…

We’re growing fast and alongside a fun and friendly environment, we offer a fabulous package and amazing prospects – ideal if you’re already fantastic and can quickly become even better (our magic can help here).  Benefits include Pension, Life Assurance, discretionary company bonus, 25 days’ holiday and, of course, a Merlin Magic Pass which gives you and your friends and family free admission to all of our attractions worldwide, as well as 25% discount in our retail shops and restaurants and 40% discount on LEGO.
