Barnsley House is an 18-bedroom contemporary country house hotel. Situated in the centre of the beautiful Cotswold village of Barnsley, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire this is a country hotel like no other. Set in exquisite landscaped gardens Barnsley House is reminiscent of a stunning stately home with grounds to match.

We are at present looking for a Gardener to join the gardening team at Barnsley House.

Working Hours: Full-time - 40 hours per week – 5 days per week

As Gardener, your main responsibilities in this role will be:

• To maintain ornamental historic features within the site and care for the gardens and grounds
• Ensure the proper care of plants, including propagation, cultivation, weeding, dead heading and hand pruning
• Maintain health and safety policy and practises within the grounds and gardens and fully compliant with HSAW regulations
• To use horticultural machinery including tractor and hedge cutters.  (This is a key responsibility in this role and essential).
• Assist with floristry within the hotel

The ideal candidate will need to be hard working, flexible and a team player with the ability to work to a very high standard without the need for supervision.

Experience and skills required for the role:

• Professional attitude
• A keen interest in plants and gardening – Any previous qualifications in horticulture are desirable but not essential
• Good communication skills - Happy to meet and talk to hotel guests and visitors about the plants and garden
• Motivated to work to a very high standard without the need for supervision
• Willingness to build knowledge of plant identification, care and vegetable production
• Capable of physically demanding/ repetitive heavy work
• Self-motivated with a keen attitude to work and learning

Barnsley House is located in the centre of the Cotswold village of Barnsley, on the B4425 (Cirencester to Bibury and Burford road), four miles north-east of Cirencester in Gloucestershire. Therefore, due to location and limited public transport, own transport is essential for this role.
