Salary: Up to £26,000 depending on experience + Benefits

Hours: 40 per week, flexibility to work evenings and at weekends is required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as we’re currently recruiting for Duty Manager to work 40 hours per week between Monday to Sunday.

Birmingham City Council and Sport England are investing £8.5 million in the development which will feature a state of the art gym with approximately 135 stations offering the latest in fitness equipment, a 25-metre swimming pool with timing equipment for competition events and spectator seating for 250 people, a teaching pool, a dance studio, relaxation, sauna and steam areas and a café.  The project is part of a citywide investment of nearly £40million to give Birmingham residents leisure and exercise facilities fit for the twenty first century.

The leisure centre, on newly regenerated land adjacent to Ladywood Middleway will bring exciting new sports, fitness and swimming opportunities to the communities of Ladywood and nearby Edgbaston, as well as to new residential developments in the city centre and the Jewellery Quarter

Unique in being located on a new site, Ladywood Leisure Centre is the fourth new centre to be built and managed in Birmingham by Birmingham Community Leisure Trust (BCLT), working in partnership with Birmingham City Council (BCC).

Overview of the role

As the Duty Manager you will manage the facility on a day to day basis ensuring all activities are delivered to a high standard with safety as the first priority.  The role will involve a high level of customer interaction as well as the deployment and supervision of the department teams. 

You will take control and respond in the event of any emergency situation.   

Each Duty Manager will be aligned to a specific area of responsibility of which they will be accountable for.  Areas include:

  • Health, Safety and Quality
  • Commercial
  • Operations

About you

As the successful candidate you must be able to evidence operational and stakeholder management experience, preferably gained within a Leisure environment.

As a Manager of People, you will have extensive experience of managing and successfully leading and developing team across Ladywood Leisure Centre. 

You will possess well developed problem solving skills with the ability to think creatively to satisfactorily resolve problems in a systematic and logical manner.

Your naturally strong team working, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills will stand you in good stead in this role as will your ability to be assertive and exercise authority when appropriate.

Essential qualifications 

  • First Aid at Work qualification including AED
  • Pool Plant Operators Qualification (PPO)
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification  (Desirable)
  • NEBOSH certificate (Desirable)
  • IQL Trainer Assessor qualification (Desirable)
