GLL is looking for a Swimming Coach in Barnet, North West London for our elite swim club known as the Barnet Training Scheme which works in partnership with Barnet Copthall Swimming Club. This scheme is recognised as one of the leading swim programmes in Great Britain and has sent swimmers to every Olympic and Paralympic Games since 1980. This role is based at Copthall Leisure centre but will require travel to two other centres in Barnet, Church Farm Leisure Centre and Finchley Lido Leisure Centre.

As a Swimming Coach, you’ll thrive on supporting swimmers achieve their potential at county and regional level. Taking a pupil’s nature and needs into account, you’ll draw on your knowledge of practices, progression and teaching points – and apply it in the most effective way. Organisation will be key as you’ll plan competition entries, you’ll also need to physically and mentally prepare swimmers for competition whilst actively coaching to develop a quality, structured and balanced programme with particular focus on building up the club programme. Naturally, there’ll be some administration involved, but rest assured that almost all of your time will be spent doing what you do best – teaching and coaching people to become stronger swimmers, whether in a group or one-to-one, and from juniors to senior athletes.

We’re looking for a Swimming Coach with a minimum of 2 years’ experience of coaching at county and regional standard with a minimum ASA Level 2 Qualification. You’ll have knowledge of the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme for teaching swimming skills, techniques and awards, and ideally, the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers & Coaches. Knowledge of health, safety and other relevant legislation will be vital too, as will an understanding of Child Protection Policy. Plus of course, you’ll need to be approachable, with the friendly, patient nature needed to build people’s trust, motivate pupils and encourage with praise.
