The Role:

It is the compliance solicitor role to champion a culture of compliance throughout the business to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.  Raising awareness and providing an advisory role for regulatory aspects.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Review and define a risk and compliance framework, including best practice guidance
  • Ensure that systems and controls are maintained and updated for recording breaches and reporting to the ICO
  • Manage anti-money laundering policies and procedures and ensure compliance
  • Investigate breaches and near breaches of all regulations and report as soon as reasonably practicable
  • Maintain a centralised reporting system to capture and record any breaches in compliance
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on corrective actions or risk mitigation of potential issues in policies, systems and employee conduct
  • Responsibility for updating and maintaining all policies on risk and compliance
  • Assist in gathering information in response to regulatory requests
  • Develop and deliver risk and compliance training effectively as required
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of appropriate regulations and internal policies and procedures, including money laundering regulations, General Data Protection Regulations, SRA Handbook, firm standards of client service, anti-bribery and corruption, conflicts of interest, client due diligence etc
  • Comply and uphold policies and procedures, such as health and safety, IT, security, email and anti-virus policies and equality and fair treatment
  • Be flexible to carry out any other reasonable task as requested within the office environment

The Person:

  • Experience of working in a regulated environment. In-house legal experience preferable
  • Knowledge of data protection legislation and AML procedures would be preferred
  • Good IT skills and knowledge are essential
  • Judgement to balance commercial and compliance risks to achieve positive outcomes
  • Ability to deal with confidential matters with discretion and tact
  • Maintains the highest professional standards to ensure the firm is not in a position of risk
  • Ability to build supportive relationships with everyone across the firm
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with an ability to influence at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Able to multi-task, manage time effectively and keep calm under pressure
  • Makes commercial business decisions and is resilient in the face of resistance
