An opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager at our Manchester manufacturing operation following significant investment in new Technology Platforms.  

Reporting to the Bakery Operations Manager, the primary focus of the role is to ensure the smooth running of the bakery plant, equipment and facilities. In this role, you will lead our team of maintenance engineers, ensuring that our assets best meet the needs of the business. The successful applicant will utilise Lean Manufacturing & TPM principles to maximise efficiency and ensure that all activities are conducted safely and in line with Good Manufacturing Practice.

Circa £50,000 dependant on experience.

Job Description

·         Creating a culture where safety, quality and compliance are embedded in daily life

·         Supporting the Engineering and Site teams to achieve manufacturing excellence

·         Active involvement in site improvement activities and supporting Lean Manufacturing rollout

·         Managing the Engineering budget, to maximise the value of expenditure to the business

·         Ensuring Engineering and Maintenance plans are aligned with the national manufacturing, engineering and maintenance strategies and manage the delivery of plans at a local level

·         Ensuring Engineering and Manufacturing plans recognise external developments in legislation, regulatory and technical standards

·         Communicating plans and setting the standard to the Engineering team

·         Ensuring plans are in place to manage the building, plant, facilities and equipment assets

·         Managing engineering risks effectively and minimising the environmental impact of operations

·         Ensuring effective use of Agility Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

·         Ensuring Energy Monitoring and Targeting systems are actively used to identify opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption

·         Ensuring Contractors are managed within Company rules and deliver value for money

·         Planning, organising and delivering local projects of up to £100,000

·         Leading a team in line with the values, with high visibility, promoting a culture of achievement and responsibility

·         Participating in agreed personal development plans with the team, setting stretching targets and objectives that are achieved

Skills

  • Minimum 3 years engineering management experience in a food or FMCG business
  • HNC or higher in an engineering discipline
  • A track record of delivering performance improvement & cost reduction
  • An outstanding problem solver, capable of identifying and rectifying the root cause of the issue with a permanent solution.
  • Experience in delivering local capital projects.
  • Previous experience of PPM or similar preferable
  • Previous use of a CMMS desirable
  • Experience of leading and coaching Engineering Technicians.
  • Fully I.T. literate with Microsoft Packages – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Previous exposure to AutoCAD preferable
