Loungers are looking for an Operations Manager

We operate individually named café bars under the umbrella 'Lounge' brand and have 90 sites around the country in local neighbourhood and small town locations. Our first site opened in Bristol in 2002 and though the business has grown hugely since then we remain committed to delivering the same 'home from home' environment originally envisaged by our founders Alex Reilley (now chairman) and Jake Bishop (now commercial director). We are opening new sites at a rate of 15-20 pa and as a result of our ability to trade successfully in place others dare not tread we envisage that one day there will be as many as 400 Lounges in the UK.

We trade successfully through the day, with our unique atmosphere changing hour by hour with each new wave of customers. They are as likely to frequent us for a Lounge breakfast and coffee first thing, a burger and a beer for lunch, or tapas and cocktails in the evening. Our customer base is very broad and we are committed to every Lounge being a an asset to its local community.

Our ops managers play a pivotal role in the success of our business. Working alongside an Operations Chef you will manage an area of 8-10 sites, which is relatively small by industry standards - an indication of our determination to remain close to our teams and our customers.

We are looking for an Operations Manager who will...

  • Believe: In themselves, in their teams, in what we are trying to achieve for our customers and in the power of hospitality as a force for good.
  • Be honest: And have the strength of character to own up to what's not going right and tell it like it really is.
  • Know their people: Not just their names, but what makes them tick and how to get the best out of them.
  • Build a team: You'll be a natural leader, good at recruiting, with infectious passion and the ability to balance seriousness with a sense of fun.
  • Command the detail: Stocks, rotas, H&S, lightbulbs, the nooks and crannies of the P&L - uncompromising operational standards both front and back of house.
  • Never settle: For second best that is. We're obsessive about learning from yesterday, in each site, every day.
  • Work hard: We should stress it's not an easy job, it's a way of life - hugely rewarding if you get it and are fully committed, incomprehensible if you aren't.
