Job Details

GLL is looking for x3 Duty Managers, to help run the newly built Cambridge Ice Arena - a dedicated permanent ice venue for the city. Over 20 years in the making, the Arena will open thanks to the generous donation of a Cambridge University alumnus who wished the city and surrounding areas to enjoy a premier ice and leisure destination. We want Cambridge Ice Arena to not only be a destination for recreational skaters but also for those who want to engage in a new kind of fitness as well as producing future Winter Olympic skaters, curlers and ice hockey players.

As Duty Manager, you'll support the General Manager to ensure all aspects of the Arena from operations to health & safety, staffing, business and sales run smoothly. Genuine passion and knowledge for the world of ice skating and related sports/recreation activities will definitely help you be a success in this role as you'll engage with many sections of the community including customers, recreational ice skaters and competitive skaters and teams. This is no typical 9-5, as you'll be up early to ensure the University Ice Hockey team can train, and then you'll walk the building checking that it's prepared and safe, welcoming our schools/junior lesson.

We want people to keep coming back whether they're curlers, skaters, ice hockey players, learners or experienced sports people - so your knowledge of all things 'ice' will ensure we can offer a great venue and consistent, quality lessons and courses. Ice coaching qualifications would be desirable but not essential. If you're a fast-thinker who's calm under pressure, responsible and a natural with people from all walks of life, this is your chance to work at one of the most exciting new sporting venues to open in Cambridge in recent years. We also look for integrity, a can-do attitude, health and safety knowledge, and a customer service focus, combined with relevant professional qualifications such as, First Aid or equivalent.

We offer all the support and benefits you'd expect from the UK's leading leisure operator and charitable social enterprise, including:

  • Pension schemes
  • Ride to work scheme
  • Discounted membership at our leisure centres
  • The opportunity to join the GLL Society and have a say in how we're run plus associated social events
  • Career pathways
  • Ongoing training and development to help you to be the best

If you have the passion and skills for this role, apply now.

All pay rates are subject to skills, experience, qualifications and location.

To be shortlisted for the role, internal applicants will need to demonstrate their commitment to GLL by becoming a Society member where eligible.
