SPOTT Manager (Full-Time / Permanent)

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s purpose is to inspire, inform and empower people to stop wild animals from going extinct. Our priorities are: Wildlife and People; Wildlife Health; and Wildlife Back from the Brink. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

The success of our new strategy, ZSL 200, and our contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, will depend on our ability to influence the private sector to implement sustainable economic models and practices and thereby demonstrate to policy makers the benefits that can be derived. This will include positive influence in the finance sector, so that this powerful engine of economic development addresses the urgent environmental challenges that face us. For positive conservation impact and outcomes to be achieved and sustained it is crucial to harmonise three core elements: economic growth; social inclusion; and environmental protection. These elements are inter-connected and all are crucial for the well-being of individuals and societies, and towards building an inclusive, sustainable and resilient future for people and planet. The Sustainable Development Goals recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and addresses a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
