Commercial Finance Analyst - Trading Planning and Forecasting

The Finance team play a key role in the success at ASDA and the Financial Planning (FP&A) team are very much at the heart of Finance with our Exec board and Wal-Mart as our key customers.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the team including two primary responsibilities;
  • Business performance review and analysis – using analytical skills, judgement and networks to understand our trading performance, giving visibility of the right issues to help drive performance
  • Maintaining and developing efficient and effective planning / forecasting processes across the Trading elements of the Planning team to ensure financial control and to help drive the right decisions.

  • This is a high-profile commercial finance role that will require you to have strong commercial and analytical skills. This is a great opportunity for a colleague with lots of drive and potential to develop in a fast-paced team where you will build a great understanding of Asda Finance, the wider Asda business, and the broader retail market, setting you up well for future roles within Asda.


    What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Monitoring performance against plan/forecast and proactively driving analysis to understand, evaluate, challenge and improve trading performance
  • Providing trading and market insight into weekly and monthly business performance reviews
  • Maintaining and developing financial control across the trading planning and forecasting processes including supporting the delivery of the trading business plan
  • Managing processes effectively whilst continually looking for new ways to improve efficiency for Finance and the wider business

  • About you:
  • You should either be a fully qualified or part qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • You’ll have a positive attitude and a keen willingness to learn; you’ll be motivated to get the job done and to deliver to tight timelines; actively seeking accountability and opportunity
  • Analytically minded and with a desire to understand how things work, you’ll have a keen eye for detail
  • You will ideally have advanced Excel / modelling skills and working knowledge of PowerPoint
  • You’ll be a strong communicator with the ability to build relationships and deliver through others in a fast paced environment
  • Good commercial awareness is a must with the ability to critically evaluate and clearly articulate commercial performance
