Job Title:                    Duty Manager 

Reports to:                 General Manager / Assistant General Manager

Principal Role:

To work with the General Manager/Assistant General Manager to ensure the efficient day to day operation and activities at the centre. The Duty Manager will have individual areas of responsibility which will contribute to the centres overall performance.

We are particularly looking for someone who is available to work weekend shifts. The position could suit those already with other full time commitments elsewhere. 

 

 Main Areas of specific responsibilities and duties:

  • To assist the General Manager in managing the daily operation of the facilities and the organisation of activities, to ensure that the overall service complies with the policies and standards set by Eric Liddell Sports Centre.
  • To assist with the overall function of reception, including customer services, reconciliation, deliveries, memberships, bookings, telephone enquiries and complaints, and ensure that an appropriate level of service is maintained together with a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • To be responsible as Duty Manager during the centre’s opening hours with full supervisory control over the staff and responsibility for the operation of the centre.
  • To assist the General Manager in implementing the approved Quality Management Systems, maintaining all operational standards, records, systems and financial procedures in accordance with instructions and regulations.
  • Assist with the organisation and promotion of all activities, groups and events/special programmes administered by the centre.
  • Maintain effective and efficient channels of communication between customers, staff and contractors.
  • Ensure that all reasonably practicable steps and precautions are taken to meet the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Health & Safety procedures documented in the QMS
  • To be part of the key holder Duty Manager Team, responsible for security and serious incidents.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the equipment and facilities to ensure the safety and well-being of customers using the facility.
  • To ensure all staff undertake all induction programmes comprehensively, in a safe and effective manner.
  • Take a leading role on agreed areas of responsibility, defined by the General Manager.
  • Produce regular reports on these key areas of responsibility.
  • Carrying out any other reasonable requests, in line with the broad responsibilities of the job;

Skills and abilities:

  • Proven planning, decision-making and organisational skills.
  • Well-developed communication skills in order to ensure effective communication with a wide range of individuals, including customers, colleagues and partners.
  • Ability to lead, enthuse, supervise and motivate the work of the team and others.
  • Evidence of well-developed verbal and written communication skills in order to ensure effective communication with a wide with a wide range of individuals.

Knowledge:                            

  • Knowledge of leisure / sport centre facilities operations, including health and safety, reception, cash handling, customer service and sales.
  • Knowledge of the operation of a variety of sport and leisure equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.

Experience:

  • Experience of working effectively as a team member. 
  • Experience of the operations and tasks related to the day-to-day running of leisure / sports centre facilities.
  • Planning and organisation of activities in a leisure / sports centre environment
  • Experience of working in a fitness setting

Qualifications:

  • You should hold NPLQ, FAAW, Foundation Pool Pant Operators and Health & Safety qualifications/certificates or working towards these qualifications.
  • CIMSPA Supervisory/Management, NVQ level 3 Sport & Recreational and Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification, ASA qualifications would be an advantage.
