Food Safety Manager - Head Office

We have an opportunity for an experienced Food Safety Manager to join our team in our Head Office here in Cumbria and reporting to our Commercial Director. We are looking for someone who can drive a culture of continuous improvement and deliver the highest food safety standards across the Westmorland Family of businesses.

The role will manage, continuously improve, develop and standardise food safety procedures and systems and your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring the standards of hygiene, food safety, traceability, allergen management and quality.
  • Ensure all complaints are investigated and root cause is established to enable solid corrective action implementation through the operational team and drive complaint reduction and continual improvement.
  • Act as company-wide technical contact for all customers and external bodies
  • Manage end to end supplier approval process including audits and maintenance of the approved supplier list.
  • Regular liaison with buyers and food dev team, supplier and manufacturing teams regarding new specifications, technical challenges and new product development.
  • Monitor site quality and food safety performance and formally report feedback to the business on daily, weekly and monthly KPI'S.
  • Drive HACCP system to deliver appropriate and effective Food Safety control and monitoring systems.
  • Ensure internal audit framework is in place being followed and acted upon, reporting of non-conformances from internal and external audits and follow-up with appropriate departments.
  • Work with the Food Dev team to ensure each production and Ops colleague has accurate and timely product information including product specifications, packing specifications, photographic standards and Quality Attribute sheets.

We are looking for someone with a background in food manufacturing within a technical or quality department and hold a food science or related degree. Experience of working in food retail or packaging and with agency partners and labs would be an advantage   You must be confident, a good communicator and able to effectively engage at all levels in a fast paced and continually growing business.
