Pool Manager - Portishead Open Air Pool

Salary: £21,000 P/A negotiable according to skills, qualifications and experience.

Portishead Open Air Pool is a beautiful 33m heated lido in a stunning position on the sea front of a thriving North Somerset town.  First opened in 1962, it was threatened with closure in 2008.  Portishead Pool Community Trust took it over, and have since increased visitor numbers from under 10,000 to in excess of 40,000 during the season, and generating considerable media interest, including a makeover from TV personality Ty Pennington. 

Trustees are now seeking a  pool manager to work with them in consolidating the past 10 years’ achievements.  While continuing to offer an excellent customer experience, the post-holder will also work  to help ensure the long-term future of the pool.  The manager will have the necessary skills, experience, and qualifications to carry out the day to day safe operations of the pool and will also be involved in identifying new sources of revenue, including fund-raising and grants, and generating new initiatives.

This is an exciting challenge for an ambitious individual who is looking for a management job with a difference.   You will have  experience of managing lifeguards and taking responsibility for pool operations, and ideally you will have lifeguarding, pool plant and first aid qualifications.  You will be proactive, well-organised, and a good team worker but also possess strong leadership and communication skills.   You will need flexibility, commitment and drive, and be willing to work long hours during the pool’s heated season and fewer  hours during the unheated season when cold swimming and other activities take place.     

This role entitles the post holder to 28 days (154 hours) annual leave . The manager will need to ensure that he/she  is available to work during the summer months.  Bank Holidays and weekends are taken to be normal working days.  The Trust does not provide an occupational sick pay scheme; any illness is paid in accordance with the Statutory Sick Pay scheme.
