EDGE Projects Coordinator (Full-Time / 1 Year Fixed-Term Contract)

Role Profile

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an innovative and adaptable individual with a keen interest in conservation to coordinate the successful delivery of the EDGE of Existence programme, by monitoring and reporting on multiple EDGE grants in line with donor agreements, delivery of EDGE training courses, financial and logistical support to remotely based EDGE Regional Project Managers working on the EDGE Fellowship initiative.

Reporting to the EDGE Conservation Capacity Manager the post holder will also lead the development and management of an internal and external review panel for the EDGE Fellowship and EDGE Award applications, including the production of confidential agreements with those reviewing EDGE applications, in collaboration with ZSL Legal team where appropriate. They will liaise with and assist in developing new partnerships with other academic, conservation and educational institutions to expand the panel. The successful candidate will ideally possess exceptional people and project-management skills, and be able to plan and keep track of multiple projects.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • The post holder is responsible for the coordination and delivery of EDGE Fellowship training courses, including timetable development, session design, evaluation, logistics and planning activities in line with ZSL travel and health and safety policies and procedures. They will also manage the EDGE drinks reception event, overseeing the budget and working with key contacts across ZSL including the Events team.
  • The post holder coordinates the annual EDGE Fellowship call, including promotion of the call amongst our networks, processing and reviewing applications, communicating with the review panels, designing the interview schedule for the EDGE programme managers and announcement of the shortlist, in collaboration with our partners.
  • Formalise and increase EDGE taxonomic working group participation across IoZ, LC and C&P. Arranging meetings, working with the programme managers to develop agendas, and sharing meeting minutes.
  • The post holder will support the EDGE Social Dimensions Specialist to further develop and implement a Monitoring and Evaluation strategy for the EDGE Fellowship initiative and EDGE of Existence programme as a whole. This includes identifying current trends, successes and setting benchmarks and performance indicators.

Person Specification

The post-holder should have a proven track record in project development, particularly in developing countries and relevant experience and/or a higher degree in an appropriate subject such as conservation biology, conservation/development policy, science communication, anthropology or a related discipline. 

Candidates should also have:

  • A good understanding of global biodiversity conservation issues.
  • Prior experience in supporting conservation or development projects.
  • Have prior experience organising travel and organisation of events/training courses.
  • Have prior supporting funding applications and monitoring budgets.
  • Very high standard of written English and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational, time keeping, interpersonal and communication skills, both face to face and in writing.
  • Proven grant-writing and report-writing ability.
  • Proven effective communication skills.
  • Well-developed skills in using MS office packages, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • An ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within teams.

Please Note: This is a full-time, 1 year fixed-term contract position which will be based at ZSL’s offices in London, Regents Park. Having a "can do attitude", solution-focused approach and the ability to make objective decisions under pressure will make you a success in this role.
