Seasonal Grounds Operative, Site Presentation and Cleaning (Various Hours available / 6 Months Fixed-Term Contract)

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile

We are looking for seasonal grounds operatives to come and join our small team who are responsible for keeping the Zoo grounds clean, tidy and the site presentable for our visitors. The succesful candidates will be also be required to interact with visitors by answering questions whilst promoting high levels of customer care.

We need candidates to start as soon as possible so please only apply if you are able to start by the end of July at the latest. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Drive utility vehicles, cars and vans sometimes off site.
• Interact with visitors by answering questions whilst promoting high levels of customer care.
• Carry out some lifting, as there is potentially a large amount of manual handling required.
• Help keep waste bags, site signage, picnic benches are clean and tidy at all times. 

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

• Have the ability to work well as part of a team
• Experience of dealing with the public would be useful. 
• A good level of fitness is required as the nature of the job is outdoors and involves some heavy lifting. 
• A full driver’s license is essential as you may sometimes be agreed to drive utility vehicles.

We have four full-time, seasonal position available. The full-time roster will be based on a shift system rota and will include working every weekend.
