WZ Seasonal Railway Platform Operatives (Part time 9 month contract)

Role Profile

We have vacancies for part-time Seasonal Platform Operatives to work within the Great Whipsnade Railway department at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. The successful candidate will assist with daily operational requirements to enable the service to be ready for visitors. The role involves engaging and managing visitors at the station.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Platform duties including collection of tokens from passengers, liaising with retail staff in station store and safety checks for all carriage doors before signalling train off
  • Assisting with disabled passengers including ramp for wheel chair users
  • Dealing with emergencies such as lost children
  • To report any incidents to Station Master, Station Supervisor or Zoo Duty officer
  • Conduct necessary safety checks
  • Station and carriage cleaning including sweeping, washing and polishing

Person Specification

  • Have great customer service and communication skills as there will be a need to engage and interact with visitors, including Railway passengers
  • Willingness to work flexible hours at short notice
  • Be able to demonstrate initiative and a pro-active approach to running the platform and taking responsibility for day to day problems 
  • N.B: Working hours are 2-3 days week, worked within a roster which includes regular weekends, so flexibility regarding hours is crucial.
