Commercial Finance Manager – Capex Management

This role sits in Property Finance, a team which provides Commercial Finance support to Asda Property. Property Finance is split into three teams; Capex Management, Investment Appraisal and P&L Management.

As a Commercial Finance Manager you will business partner the Property Retail Change and Construction teams to manage c£200m of Capex including the delivery of the refresh programme.

Asda Property is responsible for managing our existing estate and identifying and delivering new growth opportunities. As part of this role you will appraise and recommend on investments in Asda’s existing estate, including store refresh, asset replacement strategy and space change as well as informing the prioritisation of Capex allocation across the function.

What you’ll be responsible for:
  • Working with stakeholders across Property to appraise investments, you will set measures of success and analyse performance
  • Challenging senior stakeholders to drive return on investment and improve remodel store performanc
  • Driving control through efficient planning and forecasting of capex and revex associated with the asset and refresh programmes
  • Providing ad hoc commercial insight, plus input into store plans
  • Drive preparation of business cases submitted to Property governance forums, giving clear recommendations on approval

  • About you:
  • You’ll be fully qualified (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) with strong commercial skills and the ability to commercially evaluate projects and appropriately influence operational partners
  • You’ll be able to provide accurate, timely information to a high quality with excellent attention to detail
  • You’ll have strong interpersonal and communication skills to ensure information is clearly articulated to different stakeholder groups both financial and non-financial
  • You’ll have the ability to establish professional and credible relations with both finance and non-finance colleagues and the ability to think logically, taking ownership of complex issues and drive actions that lead to driving the business forward
  • You should have proven ability to organise, prioritise and co-ordinate workloads within an environment of competing demands and deadlines
  • Experienced in the use of Excel and PowerPoint
  • A desire to embrace digital change to find new, more efficient ways of working
  • Ideally you will have worked within fast paced, complex environments and show evidence of delivery against tight deadlines where conflicting priorities exist
