Basic Salary: £20,000 to £25,000

Additional Payments: Saturday and Sunday enhancements as part of the weekend working rota, on call stand-by allowance and out of hours’ site attendance payments. 

Hours: 40

Annual Leave: 25 Days + 8 Bank Holidays

We are looking for a Maintenance Assistant (Mechanical Bias) to join our friendly, supportive, and highly customer focussed team in delivering our estates maintenance service to the NHS at the Addenbrookes Treatment Centre in Cambridge.

The Treatment Centre provides essential NHS services which includes in-patient facilities, operating theatres and decontamination department.

Our estates service covers both reactive and planned maintenance delivered through a mix of our in-house team and specialist contractors.  We also provide additional minor/small works, capital projects, lifecycle projects, asset management and statutory compliance management.

The post holder will carry out unsupervised reactive maintenance repairs, planned maintenance, fault finding, installation, servicing, and testing to a wide range of services, plant and equipment covering electrical, mechanical and building services.

Work will typically include but not limited to with development & training:

  • Fire Alarm Testing
  • Building Repairs
  • Fabric Repairs – doors, locks, etc.
  • Emergency Light Testing
  • Calorifier Inspections
  • Water Temperature Monitoring
  • Tank Inspections
  • Thermostatic Mixing Valve Maintenance
  • Fire Door Inspections
  • Meter Reading
  • Portable Appliance Testing
  • Gutter Cleaning & Inspections
  • Unblocking of Drains & Equipment
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Ventilation Duct Cleaning
  • Air Handling Unit Filter Replacements
  • Lamp Changing and Cleaning
  • Installing of Notice Boards & Shelves etc.
  • General Labouring Duties

 

The role includes the requirement to be part of the support service working rota:

  • Work as part of a rotating late shift: Monday to Friday – 13:30 to 22:00
  • Work as part of a weekend rota: Saturday and Sunday – 08:00 to 16:30
    • Saturday and Sunday enhancements paid additional to basic salary.
    • Two non-working week days off during the weekend working week.
  • On Call - out of hours cover.

The post holder will have a highly pro-active and flexible approach to the role with a strong positive attitude to problem solving, be self-motivated, have good leadership skills and a commitment to deliver and develop a high-quality service to our customers.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Completion of a recognised appropriate mechanical apprenticeship or other relevant structured training programme.
  • Appropriate mechanical City & Guilds, NVQ, Diploma, BTEC or equivalent/other qualifications.
  • Proven mechanical experience and working in a similar environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical services.
  • Good communication inter-personal skills and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical building services.
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of mechanical services.
  • Knowledge and implementation of systems and procedures for ensuring safe systems of work for employees and contractors.
  • Practical understanding of statutory and non-statutory compliance requirements within a health or related environment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CAFM and BMS systems.
