Support Team Assistant - Darent Valley Hospital

Job Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for four Support Team Assistants to assist in the distribution and collation of menus to the In-patients and out-patients. The distribution of meals to Patients. Monitoring and recording of food temperatures and equipment. Ensuring high standards of food hygiene and equipment at ward level.

Main Responsibilities:

• Liaise with ward sister/nurse in charge & other personnel at ward level for special dietary needs, new admissions, nil by mouth patients, and red tray services etc.
• Issuing of menus and or pictorial to every patient eating on your designated wards.  If appropriate, using the alternative food list to the menu or picture menu.  Assisting patients with their selection if necessary.
• Ensure all catering equipment is ready for service at ward level.
• To collate the menus collected and distribute the information to the main Office and the kitchen.
• To accommodate special requests as far as it is reasonably practicable.
• To follow the protected meal times allocated on your ward when on duty. To distribute meals to patients at ward level.  To adhere to the red tray system for patients as indicated by the ward sister. Collection of trays to be completed after patients have had their meals.  No meal trays to be left for any period of time. 
• To monitor and record temperatures of food at ward level.
• To monitor and record temperatures of ward refrigerators and heated trolleys.  To monitor and record stock levels of provisions at ward Level.
• To serve patients beverages at times stipulated by the ward sister. While on duty.  Off duty beverages to be served by the house keeping and nursing staff

Experience/Skills:

• Organisational skills
• Good reading and writing ability
• Experience in a customer focus environment
• Able to work with minimum supervision
• Able to communicate clearly with others
• Use own initiative
