Queen’s Sport

Queen’s Sport has 5 key sporting venues at Queen’s University Belfast to facilitate a wide and diverse number of indoor and outdoor sporting activities for students, staff, graduate members and the wider community. 

The PEC has a membership of approx. 11,000 people with 57 Student Sporting Clubs availing of facilities across all 5 sites. 

The Sports Team consists of 64 members of staff, as well as coaches and volunteers who deliver quality programmes and experiences anchored in student opinion.

The successful candidate will be responsible for management of the fitness and wellbeing programming function within Queen’s Sport and the delivery of this fitness product to members of all abilities across all sites. 

The post holder will assist the Participation and Wellbeing Manager to co-ordinate and supervise a team of fitness providers, coaches and instructors who will create and deliver an innovative and accessible range of fitness services to include all classes and courses. This will increase participation by students and motivate all members to exercise more, providing creative opportunities through the delivery of a quality centred retention strategy. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Relevant academic/vocational qualifications at ONC/OND, A Levels, NVQ level 3.
  • Post related qualification e.g. NVQ Level 2 Advanced Instructor or some other award recognised by the Registry of Exercise Professionals (REPS) and Skills Active.
  • 4 years’ recent relevant experience of working on the gym floor and teaching classes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage a successful busy fitness programme and plan resource allocation, work activities and projects as required.
  • Must demonstrate the effective delivery of specialised fitness services (sports specific, personal training free weights training and strength & conditioning coaching) to a range of customers.
  • Ability to lead a team of internal and external fitness professionals
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluating management information
  • Must be literate in standard software packages as well as bespoke equipment software.
  • Extensive experience of developing a sales and retention culture within the fitness sector.
  • Good knowledge of market trends and an understanding of the needs of target groups including females and the student population.

Anticipated interview date: Week commencing Monday 14th January 2019

Salary scale: £40,792 - £50,132 per annum (potential to progress to £53,175 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
