Role Profile

ZSL is seeking one data analyst to work for our Nepal Conservation Progamme. The position will be based at Kohalpur and frequent travel to the field locations in lowland Nepal, sitting within ZSL’s Nepal Country Programme.

The key objective of this role is to support with strengthening site security for tiger bearing protected areas. The post holder will support field deployment of GSM enabled cameras, collate and analyse the images received and produce report to share with relevant law enforcement agencies.  Working closely with the relevant senior managers, the post holder will achieve this objective by liaising with protected area managers and Rapid Response (RR) Unit established at local sites.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaise with protected area managers and RR Units in implementation of the project activities
  • Planning and deployment of GSM enabled cameras across all tiger bearing protected areas
  • Image data archiving, profiling and analysis
  • Produce intelligence reports and regular updates to share with protected area law enforcement teams
  • Work in close coordination with line manager and project staff to ensure the timely delivery of project activities
  • Training and technical assistance to RR Units
  • Overall management of the RR operation at sites.

Person Specification

Ideally the successful candidate will:

  • Be educated to Masters’ Degree level in Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Crime studies or equivalent qualification or have equivalent related field experience.
  • Have at least one-year experience in wildlife crime analysis, law enforcement or illegal wildlife trade research and accurate interpretation skill of results
  • Have proven skills and experience on use of GIS, image processing software, data analysis software etc.  
  • Have interest and updated on latest technology development
  • Have a good understanding of biodiversity conservation issues in Nepal with sound knowledge on wildlife survey methodologies,
  • Have a good understanding of the culture and livelihoods related issues and opportunities for the lowland communities
  • Have experience with managing and analysing large volume datasets.
  • Have excellent written and spoken English with ability to deliver quality reports.
  • Have good communication skills as well as coordination with government agencies, conservation partners, communities and other project staffs.
  • Be willing to spend time in field as necessary and show compassion and respect nature and wildlife.
