Learning and Development Manager - New Opening - The Standard London

We embrace, we create, we innovate; The Standard never stands still. Be part of our unconventional, bold, irreverent, evolved and personal takeover of London. The Standard London, our first international property set to open in 2019 will create a unique symbiosis of City and brand where our people are hosts to a world that is uniquely London, yet anything but standard….

At the heart of our hotels are of course our people who through their vibrancy and energy bring our properties to life. We are now seeking a team of diverse and dynamic individuals that will capture the very essence of the Standard London to join our team as a Learning & Development Manager.

Your role

As a Learning & Development Manager at the Standard, London you will oversee all training, learning & development of our team to help engage and inspire them to provide the ultimate in guest service experience, that is anything but Standard

You will work as part of a wider HR team, however with the overall responsibility for ensuring training cascades down throughout the operation you will spend a large amount of time within the business, partnering with our department managers and supporting their individual training needs; whether this is through the design of a departmental workshop, assessing service quality and evaluation of training, or coaching our department managers with individual training needs. There will of course be a creative perspective to your role in order to produce a suite of in-house training programmes to complement the hotels pre-opening training programme, with this in mind you’ll demonstrate highly versatile modern presentation styles to provide bespoke learning experiences, through engaging and blended delivery techniques ranging from classroom through to developing e-learning modules.

Once the hotel is open you will look towards the longer-term improvement of employee skills through individual learning objectives, the assessment of guest service delivery across the business, and the implementation of new learning initiatives such as apprenticeship and management development programmes.

Do you have what it takes to be a Learning & Development Manager

While we take every detail of design and guest experience seriously, we do not take ourselves too seriously. ‘Standard People’ are at the heart of our brand; vivid, dynamic and engaging. You’ll intrinsically understand the unique microcosm and the context of our venues and city you represent.

While prior experience as a Learning & Development Manager is always useful all are welcome at the Standard; you will have however an uncompromised and natural flair for service and be able to build genuine relationships with guests that enable us to not only preempt needs but foresee desires. In addition to this you will also need…

  • A proven track record in a similar Learning & Development or Training role with the ability to inspire and motivate a team, ideally gained in a similar ‘Lifestyle’, destination restaurant or boutique hotel sector
  • Highly motivated and pro-active; act with professionalism and positivity in all interactions
  • Experience across a range of Training and Learning disciplines
  • Previous experience in the design, develop and delivery (and evaluation) of effective training programmes
  • Experience in the monitoring of quality standards, the order of service, to maintain and evaluate service standards throughout the hotel
  • Opening experience preferred
  • Experience with Flow and Fourth HR preferred

We are defined by our richness of personality and diversity of background and lifestyle so if you think you have what it takes to be a Learning & Development Manager we’d love to meet with you.

All applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK. Documented evidence of eligibility will be required from candidates prior to commencing employment.
