Cruise Ship Designer / Architectural Coordinator - Shore Based - Southampton

Our Corporate Shipbuilding team is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s new build projects and we are looking for an Outfitting Engineer / Architectural Coordinator to join the already 40 strong team.  

The overall purpose of the role is to:

  • Provide, manage and apply technical expertise in outfitting to the design, construction and conversion of passenger vessels and to the operation of the existing fleet.
  • Provide expertise in the design, selection and testing of equipment for all ships under construction and in the fleet.
  • Provide architectural co-ordination in relation to Carnival Corporate newbuilds

 

Some of the key responsibilities the successful candidate will do are as follows:

  • Initial design development, liaising with the architect and shipyard.
  • Follow up of the integration of the designs with the operators
  • Working on mock-ups with the architect and the CCS Southampton team and inspection team
  • Review of consultant drawings as well as yard and sub-contractor drawings
  • Overview of yard/sub-contractor cost claims and possible MTF’s
  • Undertaking onboard inspections
  • Working with the architect to identify major issues
  • Final acceptance inspection

 

As part of the role you will also ensure that accurate and comprehensive records are maintained of any meetings or agreements he holds or makes with the shipyards, sub-contractors or others.

About You:

For this position the following skills are essential:

  • Ability to assimilate, critically examine and analyse technical information and make informed recommendations where appropriate;
  • Ability to write precise technical reports and letters;
  • Ability to negotiate specifications and contracts;
  • Ability to present technical and commercial arguments effectively and influence others with regard to such issues;
  • Ability to understand reasonable requirements of the operating company and actively build good relationships;
  • Ability to understand the underlying (naval) architectural principals behind issues under negotiation and to demonstrate the practical application and feasibility of what is being recommended by CCS;
  • Sensitivity to commercial considerations;
  • Ability to anticipate issues and resolve problems in a timely and effective manner;
  • Ability to prioritise work and adapt pace of work to business demands;
  • Ability to respect given deadlines;
  • Good level of IT skills, particularly MS Word, Excel (including use of formulas and tables), Power Point and Lotus Notes;    

Ideally, you will have experience in AutoCAD and Microstation. For this role, you will have a willingness to work/relate to and communicate with senior managers across the organisation and will possess a holistic, project based approach to work. Naturally, excellent accuracy / attention to detail in all aspects of work is a must and you will also use initiative and be able to influence others, particularly in technical arguments. Any knowledge you may have of European languages would also be preferred.
