What does a general arts and crafts instructor do?

Paint, glitter and PVA glue. Arts and crafts at camp is all about getting creative, messy and stuck in. Children all ages love arts and crafts as it’s the chance get artistic, whether it be an inventive decoration for their cabin or a wacky gift to give Mom/Dad after camp - campers love to show off their creations.

As the instructor you’ll find yourself forming weekly projects, from frame making to puppet building - the projects are designed to be fun and simple. You’ll run arts and crafts activities typically in the mornings and afternoons. There may be times where you work on camp wide projects - from colour war banners, group murals or even the theatre department with props and costumes.

You should bring ideas. Being imaginative is so important when teaching arts and crafts at summer camp.

Why should I teach arts and crafts at camp?

Teaching children arts and crafts is a special kind of summer, watching their confidence grow through artistic projects and seeing where their minds take them is something extraordinary.

You should show your skill level and ability using different mediums; from acrylic, oil, watercolour and charcoal sketching to bolder projects such as working with clay, wire and papier-mâché - camp directors want to hear about your versatility and creative flare. Adding a portfolio to your application is a great way to give insight to you and your style.

If you are the arty type and are looking for something different, then look no further.
