The Principal York, adjacent to the train station and dating back to 1878, provides the first tangible glimpse of the ambitions for and investment in the Principal hotel brand. All of the hotel’s 155 bedrooms have been given a beautiful look and feel by interior architects Goddard Littlefair, whilst the refurbished public spaces include The Garden Room, with views across the hotel lawns to York Minster in the background. The hotel also has a restaurant – The Refectory Kitchen & Terrace, serving fresh, seasonal produce from “God’s Own Country” – as well as a comfortable, cosy bar called the Chapter House.

Your day to day

In this key role for our business, your responsibility will be to plan, market, and execute our social events calendar this includes events such as Tribute Nights, Outdoor Cinema and Charity Dinners.

You will be responsible for researching and budget planning all social events. You will also be responsible for designing marketing for each event and managing ticket sales via our chosen ticket provider.

You will manage all social media pages for the hotel and work in conjunction with the DOSM to provide weekly content.

As a member of the sales team you will generate sales leads through conducting research calls, along with attending networking events to generate awareness of the Principal York as a venue to host special events in York, in addition supporting with familiarisation trips and conduct show rounds to showcase.

What we need from you

To be successful in this role, experience of working in a similar role previously, ideally within a 4* hotel/events centre, is beneficial. We are looking for a customer focused individual with a proven track record in sales and coordination. You will need excellent organisation and time management skills with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment. An excellent eye for detail and accuracy are crucial as is the ability to use your own initiative and being intuitive to the client’s needs. Communication skills are key, allowing you to build strong and effective working relationships across the business and to create a rapport with clients. You will be IT literate and it would be advantageous for you to have some knowledge of systems such as Sales Force and Opera.
