Role Profile

Reporting into the Senior Play Leader the Play Team Leader role will support in the day today operations of the Hullabazoo indoor play function creating a pleasant visitor experience. As well as contributing to the day-to-day operations the job holder will supervise and motivate the Hullabazoo team demonstrating excellent standards of customer care whilst ensuing health and safety requirements are adhered to. A further purpose of the role is to ensure revenue is maximised within the Hullabazoo environment. Weekend working, and Bank holiday cover is a key requirement of the position.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that visitors of Hullabazoo are always safe and secure as well as achieving visitor satisfaction through good customer service.
  • Working with other departments around the zoo to ensure Hullabazoo is providing equivalent high standards to all visitors.
  • Responsible for monitoring the Health and Safety for both the indoor and outdoor Hullabazoo play areas along with other Play Leaders. Following the Health and Safety procedures already in place within Hullabazoo.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer service, attending to visitors needs as they arise ensuring exemplary customer service at all times.
  • Maintaining a high level of presentation standards with the cleanliness of Hullabazoo.
  • As well as Indoor Play facilities, Hullabazoo has catering facilities including seating and servery plus the introduction of Private Hire, first aid post, face painting and retail products sold via the facility reception post. The play team leader should work with the senior play leader, and the
  • Hullabazoo team to ensure excellent customer service and impression of the facility and be aware of areas for improvement.

Working Conditions

  • This post will be based primarily in Hullabazoo indoor play with occasional office time as when required.
  • Hullabazoo reception can be a busy active environment at peak times
  • Inside Hullabazoo indoor play the play area can become a noisy
  • Outside working will occur when face painting, the face painting area is covered, and face painting will not take place in inclement conditions.

Person Specification

Although experience matters to us we are more focused on getting the right person for the role. As a result, below is a guide on what we are looking for in potential applicants:

  • Positive and enthusiastic with a can-do attitude.
  • A proactive approach to lead a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and the Hullabazoo team.
  • Previous experience setting up, assisting and scheduling private hire activities, in addition to assisting visitors with their supplies, leftover food and gifts.
  • To have fun whilst remaining professional and approachable.
  • A creative flare and an interest in face painting.
  • Natural ability to demonstrate great customer service skills.
  • Team orientated and able to demonstrate a real desire to make a positive difference.
    A systematic approach to handling cash and processing card payments.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience of working as a team leader.
  • Prior experience working within a similar indoor play environment.
  • Prior experience handling cash and processing card payments.
  • NVQ Level 1 qualification in child care or Play work would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • Certified first aid trained would be advantageous, but not essential training will be provide.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures required for this working environment. 
    An understanding of safeguarding in relation to working in a children’s environment.

  • Flexible working hours including working one weekend in two (every other weekend), school holidays and every Bank Holiday.
