Love pubs with the ‘WOW’ factor? The Mill at the Elstead could be for you! Following Pauls successful appointment at the Old Customs House, we are looking for an exceptional General Manager to take the helm at the stunning Mill.
Steeped in history and dating back to the 16th century, this beautiful pub is accessed over a small stone bridge and along a cobble driveway giving customers a stunning start to their customer journey. Straddling the River Wey, the Mill boasts a large waterside garden with fully equipped outside bar and Barbecue shack along with a decked area offering alfresco dining and full table service through the summer months. Inside, the pub doesn’t disappoint. A fully operational Mill wheel is located in the building itself. On the ground floor, guests can explore a warren of rooms offering more formal dining or relaxing sofas which are perfect to relax in front of the roaring open fire. On the first floor, a split level dining and events space with self-contained bar and bathrooms make this area perfect for private hire events. The 3rd floor boasts a further area which is perfect for corporate meetings or can be used in conjunction with the below area when catering for weddings and the Mill does have a wedding license.
Given the Mill’s stunning features and facilities, the pub is an extremely popular wedding venue with wedding bookings growing year on year. In addition, a varied calendar of events, ranging from Bonfire night to Christmas wreath making keep the offer fresh and interesting and offer new reasons for repeat visits. Food has traditionally been all about hearty pub classics, perfectly executed but we feel there is an opportunity to stretch the boundaries on some really premium aspirational signatures. Brilliant Sundays are the foundation of the business particularly in the winter months and we are currently trialling a number of service initiatives to make the day even more successful.
One of Surrey’s best pubs, we are looking for a talented General Manager with high standards and a proven track record of managing a complex business whilst continuing to grow sales. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in seasonal or high volume businesses and consistently delivering very high customer satisfaction scores. The ability to deliver weddings and big events would be helpful but not a necessity as there is a high performing and knowledgeable team in place. The person should also be capable of delivering a busy events calendar and networking with the local community. The pub has a strong record of developing team members and so the new manager will be able to demonstrate their ability to coach their colleagues and encourage progression.
The turnover in 2017-2018 was £1.27 million and the business has had three years of solid growth and having a strong year again this year. The wet dry mix is 65% food led with almost 250 covers internally across the three floors and up to 400 externally.
The Mill is a complex business. This is a live in position and comes with a stunning riverside 4 bedroom cottage a very short distance from the pub
