About the role:

2018 has been the biggest year in privacy for the last 20 years, with the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation and the E-Privacy Regulation in the pipeline, organisations have never had the same level of focus on Privacy.

Naturally Asda has been no different, we have a team of privacy professionals who are working hard to ensure that as a business we are doing the right thing when it comes to handling personal information. Our Privacy Team work closely with business partners in the UK and internationally to deliver Asda’s Privacy Programme, advise on all aspects of Privacy and Records Management and support innovation as we move further into a digital world.

In this fast moving space, it’s vital that we assure ourselves that we are doing the right thing and manage change, whether that be from evolving technology and business focus, changing expectations of customers and colleagues, or developing legal requirements.

The Ins and Outs:

Reporting into the Privacy Subject Matter Expert the successful candidate will play an essential role in delivery of Asda’s Privacy Programme.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Management of Asda’s Privacy management software which is used for key privacy areas such as third party management, Privacy Impact Assessments and data subject rights requests.
  • Completion of Privacy Impact Assessments and administration of the privacy risk management process. This will involve working closely with Asda’s Cyber Security function.
  • Advising the wider business on privacy compliance relating to relevant privacy laws (i.e. GDPR, PECR).
  • Oversight of the incident management process and data subject rights request process including handling escalations and reporting.
  • Stakeholder engagement across high risk processing areas including Technology, HR, and Marketing.


  • What you’ll need:
  • Holds, or is working towards, a Professional Privacy Certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (e.g. CIPP/E CIPM) or an equivalent
  • Have a good understanding, and experience of, advising a business on the General Data Protection Regulation
  • Experience in leading and undertaking privacy risk assessments and able to demonstrate sound judgement in managing privacy risks
  • Previous experience in a technology focused role would be preferable with a general understanding of information security risks and standards including ISO27001
  • Demonstrable communication skills to speak to wide ranging audience including data subjects and colleagues at all levels
  • Good organisational skills with an eye for detail and the ability to prioritise and manage work.
