Swimming and Development Manager - Merthyr Tydfil

Responsible To: Wellbeing Operations Manager 

Hours: Full Time (37 Hours)

Salary: Negotiable, Circa £26k

Primary Purpose:

Wellbeing @ Merthyr (W@M) is looking to appoint an inspirational Swimming and Development Manager to provide exceptional Swimming services in Merthyr Leisure Centre and Aberfan Community Centre.

The Swimming and Development manager will develop a commercial programme and actively promote the W@M Swimming programme and its facilities. 

Specialist Accountabilities

  1. To work closely with the Leisure Centre Manager (Merthyr and Aberfan) to develop a coherent strategy for swimming, including the recruitment, development and mentoring of all swim teachers;
  2. To lead on the development and implementation of a wide ranging learn to swim development programme for Merthyr and Aberfan Leisure Centres to provide a pathway for all swimmers regardless of ability or background including preparing  lesson plans in line with the ASA National Plan for Swimming teaching;
  3. To develop the free swimming scheme to increase participation  and work with Swimming Clubs to support a strong Swimming Pathway including linking lessons and  to talent spot, plan and to deliver sessions for groups of Children 
  4. To maintain records and write reports on pupils progress and development, and to discuss progress with parents as required 
  5. To explore other aquatic opportunities including water polo and biathlon, fitness classes, etc. ;
  6. To build links with schools and local clubs and develop and run school holiday activities both as Swim camps and as part of a wider programme ;
  7. To develop a strong commercial brand for ‘Wellbeing @ Merthyr’ Swimming School ;
  8. To work proactively with the Marketing Manager to promote all Swimming Activities ;
  9. To undertake the necessary administrative tasks to allow evening, weekend and holiday coaching to be uninterrupted ;
  10. To recruit coaches and swimming instructors to provide excellent professional swimming instruction ;
  11. To manage day to day activities of the Swimming School, ensuring it operates within the pool procedures ;
  12. To exceed the annual net income targets for the Swimming School in conjunction with activity plans ;
  13. To work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues within Wellbeing at Merthyr, and with colleagues across all organisations ;
  14. To work with community groups to encourage participation in Swimming School event and activities ;
  15. To act as an ambassador of the Trust and act accordingly and to partner with support function colleagues to develop venue specific plans, in order to aid success ;
  16. To ensure a safe and positive working environment through regular monitoring and auditing of health & safety practices and providing ownership of this for the area. ;
  17. To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be requested.
