Park Estates Manager - Merthyr Tydfil

Responsible To: Wellbeing Operations Manager 

Hours: Full Time (37 Hours)

Salary: Negotiable, Circa £30,000

Primary Purpose:

To be responsible for the efficient and effective management of Cyfartha Park, including all aspects of Countryside, Woodland, Arboriculture and Horticultural management. In addition to actively promoting Cyfartha Park as an Events venue and attraction of regional importance. To manage the Parks team.

Specialist Accountabilities

  1. To manage the day to day operations of Cyfartha Park. To work with the Premises and Health and Safety Manager to carry our all repairs and maintenance of buildings and Duty of Care Programme ;
  2. To manage the Service Level Agreement (SLA) between the trust and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council to deliver Parks Maintenance at the Cyfartha Park to the highest possible standards and to ensure value for money from the SLA ;
  3. To be responsible for managing the work of all staff employed at Cyfartha Park to ensure the highest possible standards of service delivery, and managing all financial and administrative functions of Cyfartha Park ensuring that the Trust financial regulations are adhered to at all times, and services delivered within budget guidelines ;
  4. To be responsible for accepting all relevant licences relating to the operation of facilities at Cyfartha Park and implementation of a Business Plan for Cyfartha Park to maximise all commercial opportunities and to support any funding bids or approved funding to contain targets agreed with the Funders ;
  5. Work with the Events, Marketing, Food and Beverage and Museum Managers to develop the planning, implementation and monitoring of an annual programme of events for the entertainment and education of all types of park visitor ;
  6. To work with relevant Merthyr Tydfil Council departments develop funding bids for the development of the park and other amenities within the park and develop strategies with particular emphasis on countryside management and environmental issues ;
  7. To ensure members and the Senior Management Team receive frequent statistical information on park usage, visitor numbers and other such performance related information data and to monitor, review and where appropriate make recommendations on policy and procedures relating to Special Events ;
  8. To further develop and implement the Cyfartha Park Conservation Plan as a focus for delivering countryside management, biodiversity action plan species and habitat improvements within the Park. To ensure the statutory requirements of Cyfartha Park’s Conservation Plan are adhered to at all times ;
  9. To operate Cyfartha Park in accordance with all relevant statutory frameworks, local, regional and national developments, and the policies of the Trust ;
  10. To work with the Premises and Health and Safety Managers to ensure all aspects of Health & Safety of Margam Park with particular emphasis on accreditation in the OHSAS 2001 standard are met ;
  11. To ensure that all corporate events adhere to strict health and safety policy, practices and procedures ;
  12. To liaise and interact with other Managers across the Trust and other stakeholders such as Merthyr Tydfil Council, Businesses, Partners and with other agencies to maximise the effective delivery of services ;
  13. To actively encourage the use of the Park by groups or individuals who are currently under-represented (e.g. ethnic minorities, people who are socially excluded) ;
  14. To manage and to develop close links with the surrounding community to ensure the Park is supported, understood and enjoyed by all residents. Develop and promote a good working relationship with the Friends of Cyfartha Park Group ;
  15. To undertake the guidance, supervision, development and training of Park staff ;
  16. To promote, co-ordinate and contribute to the developmental planning process of the facilities at Cyfartha Park, ensuring both the cultural and heritage history is protected at all times
