Disability Mentor - Surrey (10 Hours)

Reporting to: Disability Inclusion Senior Officer (DISO)

Department: Foundation

Overview

To increase awareness, break down barriers and 'remove the fear' of working with young people and adults with disabilities. Be a mentor to delivery and development staff, up-skilling them to a position of confidence so they can deliver high quality disability provision. Increase participation, either in a mainstream or specific environment.

Aims:

  • Raise the profile and awareness of Disability Inclusion work across the West Region
  • Work alongside the Disability Inclusion Senior Officer (DISO) to enlighten and upskill staff around Disability Inclusion sessions and programmes, ensuring this is an area of confidence and competence, not fear.
  • Increase the opportunities for young people and adults with disabilities to engage in high quality sport.
  • Develop programmes, sessions and exit routes to embellish what the Disability Inclusion Department currently provides.
  • Improve the physical and mental well being of participants and their families.

Main Responsibilities

1.To attend regular disability specific training and actively seek further training where appropriate.

2.To attend a Disability Mentors meeting every quarter.

3.To increase, develop and coordinate disability specific sport sessions and programmes, ensuring they are sustainable.

4.To mentor staff and share best practice.

5.To assist the delivery of disability workshops and training where required.

6.To observe and review the performance of delivery staff, highlighting development opportunities and areas for improvement.

7.To Co-ordinate teams and coaches to attend disability tournaments: locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

8.To undertake the necessary administrative tasks that come hand in hand with coordinating a programme, such as registers etc.

9.To carry out duties with regard to relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

10.To support the DISO working with County FA's to help them achieve their targets in agreed areas.

11.To support the team in building relationships with local authorities, government departments, football authorities, education authorities and other appropriate agencies.

12.To create case studies by taking photos and collating evidence for Chelsea FC media streams and monitoring purposes.

13.To submit reports and updates as required.

14.To be a positive role model, creating a safe, positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage young people.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Understanding of disability sport
  • A passion for wanting to change lives
  • Varied coaching experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel

Desirable

  • Worked closely with disabled people
  • Project Management experience
  • Mentoring experience

Qualifications

Essential

  • A 1st 4 Sport Level 1 FA coaching award
  • A Coaching Disabled Footballers qualification
  • In date Safeguarding children & first aid certificate
  • A clean UK driving licence

Desirable

  • A 1st 4 Sport Level 2 FA coaching award
  • FA Mentoring Adults Certificate
  • PTTLS Level 3
  • Five GCSE's including maths and English
