Assistant Tax Manager – Senior Tax Advisor / Associate

About the role;

The Tax team sits within Asda’s Finance function but has a broad responsibility which stretches beyond Finance into the wider business. Alongside ownership of the annual tax reporting process, the team provides a link to the wider Retail environment helping to build an understanding of the changing tax legislation in order to inform decision making across the business.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the team, being responsible for the annual tax reporting process of the Asda group. The role will include preparation of the quarterly and annual reporting to the US and also the annual statutory reporting to HMRC, as well as other ad-hoc project work.

Ideal candidates for the role will either be newly qualified looking for their first move into an in-house role or with 1-2 years PQE looking to progress their careers within an in-house Tax function.

The Ins and Outs;

Preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting under US GAAP

Preparation of the annual UK tax computations, including liaising with the relevant teams in Finance and the wider business to obtain information

Involvement in ad-hoc projects

Ability to prepare tax disclosures for UK statutory accounts

What you’ll need;

Qualified ACA, CTA or equivalent

Knowledge and understanding of IFRS and tax compliance reporting and ideally knowledge of US GAAP (but not essential)

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build credible relationships and influence all levels of the Finance team

Team player and can do attitude – motivated to get the job done and deliver to tight timelines with the ability to self-manage

Competent Excel skills and ideally knowledge of alphatax

Open to learning new opportunities with a flexibility towards dealing with other taxes

Able to research and fact find on a range of tax issues
