Casual Ice Café Food Service Assistant (FSA) - Alexandra Palace

Contract:  This is a casual position so work will be offered on an ‘as and when needed’ basis. The hourly rate is £7.83

Responsible To: Ice Café supervisor

Overall job purpose: To assist in the efficient operation of the Ice café and deliver excellent customer service

Key internal  relationships: Catering management team / Ice Rink management team

Key duties and responsibilities:

(50%) Deliver excellent customer service by ensuring customers are served efficiently and made to feel welcome. Activities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Prepare and deliver food and beverage orders
  • Process cash and card transactions
  • Actively maintain a clean and tidy working environment
  • Replenish stock
  • Answer customer enquiries about Alexandra Palace’s events and history
  • Direct customers and clients

(25%) Support the Ice café supervisor in maintaining all aspects of the ice café operation in order to deliver efficient and consistent service. For example:

  • Monitor stock levels (food, beverage, disposables) and keep the ice café supervisor informed when stock is running low
  • Assist with taking deliveries
  • Raise any issues of concern in a timely manner
  • Cook and prepare food orders

(10%) Prepare the ice café ready for opening at the start of the working day and close down the operation at the end of the day (depending on shift pattern) keeping to advertised opening times. This includes:

  • Opening / closing shutters
  • Switching on / off equipment and lights
  • Cashing up at the end of the day

(10%) Comply with all legislative and licensing requirements associated with Food Health and Safety and the sale of alcohol

(5%) Support catering colleagues in other F&B units across the site by providing cover during busy periods depending on the needs of the business and event schedule. This may include assisting the

  • Ice Café bar
  • Backstage bar operation
  • Retail catering

Person Specification

Essential

Education / Qualification

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent with English and Maths
  • Fluent in English language

Experience

  • Experience of delivering face to face customer service
  • Experience handling and processing cash and card transactions preferably gained in a retail environment
  • Experience working in a retail catering environment

Skills

  • Good written English and the ability to keep accurate records
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to speak confidently with customers
  • Good time management and able to prioritise effectively
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Available to work a flexible shift pattern including weekends, evenings and some bank holidays
  • Barista trained

Desirable

  • Personal Liquor License
  • Bar experience
  • Food Handling Level 2
  • Experience of resolving customer complaints and issues
