About The Entertainment Buying Team

The Entertainment Buying team source branded products for both the store and online channels. This is a fast paced category, and we work to deliver the best possible ranges to meet the ever changing need of the Entertainment customer.



The Role Lead Buying Manager Gaming (Hardware, Software, Accessories and Digital)

Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the roles key responsibilities and measures:

  • Lead the team to plan and implement the category buying plans to meet category objectives, based on category strategy
  • Reviewing existing supplier performance and identify potential new suppliers
  • Leading negotiation of departmental supplier terms agreements (incl. returns), improving the trading position in a sustainable way
  • Lead the commercial delivery of the category to deliver the budget
  • Source customer and market insight led products for ranges, collaborating with International Sourcing
  • Supporting category merchandising colleagues to develop the trade plan
  • Lead the Buying team in identifying new products, creating briefs and supporting new product development processes (incl. packaging)
  • Working with suppliers and category quality team to ensure product quality is achieved and maintained
  • Setting the plans with the team to deliver product margin, always looking for a great deal and scoop buys for our customers, whilst managing the cost line and product lifecycle.
  • Ensuring Commercial Income is proactively managed by the team and invoiced correctly (incl. periodic forecasting and agreeing)
  • Developing coaching and leading a high performing team, giving them the opportunities to be their best
  • Forecasting and managing budgets effectively, always being cost conscious
  • Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence


Youll need to have demonstrated experience of:

  • Skilled buyer and negotiator in a multichannel environment
  • Leading a team and having proven man-management skills
  • Strategic and able to plan for the team to execute ranges to meet customer needs
  • Ability to interpret large amounts of data to drive out the right decision
  • Able to influence at all levels and foster good supplier relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Numeracy and a keen eye for detail
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a team, or under your own steam
  • The ability to influence with and without authority
  • Bachelors degree in relevant subject or demonstrable buying or retail experience required

  • Flexibility, ability to plan and organise for a team as well as self, responsiveness, creativity, self-starter
  • Able to build solid working relationships with peers, suppliers and senior leadership
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation.
