Job Details

The Royal Automobile Club has recently achieved IIP Silver and has a solid people strategy, and we are now recruiting a new Head of Human Resources to take this to the next level. IIP Gold is the ambition for 2020 and we are seeking an energetic, positive, enthusiastic HR leader, preferably with a background in hospitality to lead the way.

The Royal Automobile Club was founded in 1897 and remains Britain’s oldest and most influential motoring organisation, annually awarding the British Grand Prix Trophy as just one example of the many high profile events the Club is involved in. Members of the Club enjoy use of two historic, beautiful clubhouses, one in the heart of Pall Mall in London and the other, Woodcote Park, Epsom, set within the grounds of a 350-acre estate (which includes two 18-hole golf courses) in the Surrey countryside.

In this role you will report directly to the Club Secretary (equivalent of Chief Executive) and sit within the Senior Management Team of the Club. The position has excellent support from two strong direct reports and a further team of 7 structured around the Business Partner model.

In this role, no two days are ever the same and this role would suit someone who enjoys working at both the strategic and tactical level; perfectly comfortable with writing persuasive Board papers whilst also walking around the back of house to ‘check in’  and ‘test the temperature’ with staff.

The Club has an ambitious and exciting development plan to develop Woodcote Park as a true country club, extending their facilities for families and developing plans for a fabulous destination spa. Your role in this would be to lead the people workstream and ensure the strategy, culture and competencies are there to deliver perfect service to our members throughout the change and into business as usual.

To be successful in this role you will be MCIPD / FCIPD qualified or have equivalent experience, and a coaching or psychometric qualification is desirable. With experience of operating at board level, you will also have:

  • Knowledge of Employment Law
  • Experience of training and development, talent management and succession planning
  • Experience of strategy development and planning
  • The ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong stakeholder management.

In return you will work in beautiful surroundings in a very friendly organisation with a substantial benefits package.
